Typhon is the Father of All Monsters and the final boss of the Surface, a four-phase wall that hides its own health bar.
Typhon is the only boss in Hades 2 who fights you with his health bar completely hidden, so you never see how close you are to winning.
He is the Father of All Monsters, the final Guardian of the Surface route at the Summit, and a primordial giant that even Chronos can barely point in a direction. Once sealed under Mount Etna, he was freed to tear down Mount Olympus.
The fight is a four-phase endurance test built around egg waves, a wind-swept arena, and a tongue you can only hit when Zeus pins him down. Phase four doubles all of his damage, which is where most surface runs end.
This guide covers who Typhon is, the full four-phase attack list, how to survive the egg waves and the Zeus stun, the loadout that carries the fight, and the mistakes that get runs killed at the top of the mountain.
Typhon, Father of All Monsters, a four-phase Guardian with roughly 65,000 hidden health and constant adds.Typhon is the Father of All Monsters, a primordial giant of pure rage that the gods once sealed under Mount Etna, freed by Chronos to destroy Mount Olympus.
The wiki frames him as a monster in his purest form, with no coherent speech beyond simple bellows of hatred and no allegiance to anyone. He answers to Chronos
only loosely, and even Chronos admits he has little control over what he unleashed. His real target is Zeus
, who imprisoned him, so the plan is simply to aim him at Olympus and hope the gods and the monster wipe each other out.
He is the parent of half the bestiary. The wiki lists his children as Cerberus, Charybdis, the Lernaean Hydra, Aetos, and the Spawn and Twins of Typhon, born from Chaos. His presence alone blights the Summit and births new monsters from his own fluids. He is voiced by Logan Cunningham as of patch v1.0.
Killing him for real is a late-game story beat, not a normal clear. Across runs Melinoe
can only knock him back down the mountain until Hecate devises an incantation and the spear Gigaros finally ends him. He is the capstone Guardian of the Surface route.
Typhon fights across four phases on a combined health pool of about 65,000, and the wiki notes he hides the bar at the start so you cannot tell how far along you are.
Each phase changes his appearance and adds threats, with two of the phases interrupted by egg waves that spawn Elite enemies if you let them hatch. His base kit of ranged and area attacks stays constant; the phases stack new dangers on top.
| Phase | Trigger | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 | Start, uninjured | Head Smash, Eyeball (splits into three), arena-sweeping Cyclones with a side wind, Tongue Laser (no hitbox), and a six-eye Eye Swarm. |
| Phase 2 | Damage threshold | He shrouds in the storm and untouchable while eggs spawn. Destroy them within ten seconds or they hatch Elite Canines, Polyps, Lurkers, or Eidolons. His tail slams three times. |
| Phase 3 | Damage threshold | Zeus appears and stuns Typhon for 15 seconds. His head drops and his serpent tongue lies exposed on the floor for heavy damage. |
| Phase 4 | Final threshold | Another egg wave, then every attack deals double damage. Head Smash speeds up and sprouts tentacles, the Tongue Laser sweeps back, the Eyeball triples, and Eye Swarm fires eight. |
If you raise the Vow of Rivals to Tier 4, Chronos joins the fight directly. He cannot be damaged but can hurt you, replaces the Zeus stun with Time Bubbles, and adds two extra phases, one of which reverts Melinoe to her younger, attack-less form. Beating Typhon rewards a Void Lens each time, which feeds the incantation that eventually kills him.
Treat every egg wave as the real threat, exploit the free damage windows, and pace yourself since the hidden bar means the fight ends sooner than it feels.
When Typhon shrouds himself and eggs appear, drop everything and break them. The wiki specifies a ten-second timer before they hatch into Elites with extra health, and a full hatch turns a manageable fight into a swarm. Prioritize the high-health eggs that spawn Eidolons and Horrors, since those adds hurt the most.
Two windows give you nearly free damage. His Tongue Laser looks lethal but the tongue itself has no hitbox, so you can stand directly in front of him and ignore it. In phase three, Zeus stuns him for 15 seconds and his tongue falls to the floor, which is your cue to unload everything you have on it to end the phase fast. Once phase four lands, respect that all damage is doubled and play far more cautiously around Head Smash and the new tentacles.
Phase four punishes greed harder than any other Guardian. After the second egg wave, every hit Typhon lands is doubled, so keep a Death Defiance in reserve and a dash defense online. The hidden health bar means you are usually closer to the kill than the wave of new attacks suggests.
Bring concentrated single-target damage for the body and a reliable way to clear the egg waves quickly, because the fight swings on how fast you delete adds.
Anything with strong area pressure handles the eggs and the Elite spawns: a wide Cast or a chain effect like Hera
Hitch clears a cluster in one go. For the body, sustained damage matters more than burst since the bar is huge, so pick a steady Attack or Special boon you can keep landing during the safe windows.
For keepsakes, Odysseus
and his Knuckle Bones again shine, cutting Guardian HP and the damage you take from Guardians, which directly tames phase four. A defensive keepsake or a strong dash defense from Athena
helps you survive the doubled damage at the top end.
This is a fight where Death Defiance count is your real health bar. Stack revives and bring Centaur Hearts before the Summit. The egg waves and the doubled phase-four hits will chip you down no matter how clean your dodging is.
Typhon is the Father of All Monsters, a primordial giant that the gods sealed under Mount Etna. Chronos freed him and aimed him at Mount Olympus. In Hades 2 he is the final Guardian of the Surface route, fought at the Summit, and the parent of monsters like Cerberus and the Lernaean Hydra.
Break the eggs he spawns within ten seconds so they never hatch Elites, exploit his hitbox-free Tongue Laser by standing in front of him, and unload during the phase-three Zeus stun while his tongue is exposed. Play cautiously in phase four, where every attack deals double damage.
Roughly 65,000 across the four phases, split as 12,500, 15,000, 12,500, and 25,000. The wiki notes his health bar is hidden for the whole fight, so you cannot see your progress, which makes the encounter feel longer than it is.
Typhon is the only Guardian in Hades 2 whose health bar cannot be seen during the fight. The bar appears briefly in the lead-in cutscene, then shatters and stays invisible, so you have to read his phase changes instead of watching a bar.
When he shrouds himself in the storm, eggs spawn across the arena and you have about ten seconds to break them before they hatch Elite enemies. Focus the high-health eggs first since they spawn the most dangerous adds like Eidolons and Horrors.
In normal runs you only knock him back down the mountain. Permanently killing him is a late-game story step that requires Hecate's incantation and the spear Gigaros. Defeating him each run rewards a Void Lens, which feeds that incantation.
At Tier 4, Chronos joins and cannot be damaged while he can hurt you. He replaces the Zeus stun with Time Bubbles and adds two phases, including one that reverts Melinoe to a younger form where she cannot attack and has to survive until she changes back.
Typhon is fought at the Summit, the final region of the Surface route, after Polyphemus, Eris, and Prometheus. He is the surface counterpart to Chronos at the end of the Underworld route.
