Arachne weaves Silken Fineries that hand Melinoe up to 60 Armor, the most reliable defensive layer you can carry into a run.
Arachne is the only character in Hades 2 who lets you walk out of a room wearing 60 points of Armor before the first boss.
She is a spider, the first one ever made, and she sits in a quiet chamber in Erebus weaving dresses called Silken Fineries. Each one wraps Melinoe in a flat Armor pool plus a bonus that holds for as long as that Armor survives.
The catch is that she carries a curse, and the prophecy to break it sends you bargaining with the goddess who put it on her. That side quest is the deepest character arc tied to any Crossroads ally.
This guide covers every Silken Fineries outfit, the Silken Sash keepsake, where to find her, and the full path to breaking her curse and earning her Trust.
a cursed spider weaver in Erebus who gifts Armor outfits called Silken Fineries.Arachne is a spider weaver and, per the wiki, the first spider ever created, found in her own chamber in Melinoe's path through Erebus.
Her backstory is the old myth told straight. She was a mortal girl who wove so well that she boasted of beating Athena and the Fates, then actually won the contest. Athena answered by cursing her into a spider, and Arachne fled to Erebus to weave in peace.
In the underworld she treats Melinoe as a customer and a friend. She is cheerful on the surface, humming over her own work, but the wiki notes a deep resentment underneath toward Athena and the apathetic Olympians. She is also genuinely afraid of toads, since they eat spiders, so Frinos makes her panic.
Mechanically she is not a boon-giver. She hands out Outfits that grant Armor, which makes her one of the few sources of flat damage soak in the game and a steady answer to the surface routes that punish fragile runs.
Visit Arachne early. The Armor from a Silken Fineries outfit lasts until it is chipped away, so picking one up in Erebus protects you across the whole region rather than a single room.
Silken Fineries are Arachne's version of boons: each is an Outfit that grants a block of Armor plus one passive that stays active while you keep at least some of that Armor.
You claim one after stepping into her chamber in Erebus, and the wiki specifies the Armor value and bonus for each dress below. The Armor totals run from a token 5 up to a wall of 60, and the bonus scales inversely, so the tankiest dresses give the weakest extra effect.
| Outfit | Armor | Passive bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Onyx Dress | +60 | Creates +1 Fate Fabric immediately. |
| Moonlight Dress | +55 | Recharge your Hex using 30% less Magick. |
| Emerald Dress | +50 | Restore 2 health whenever you exit a Location. |
| Azure Dress | +40 | Restore 5 Magick every 1 second (paused during an Omega Move). |
| Lavender Dress | +30 | Channel your Omega Moves 40% faster. |
| Fuchsia Dress | +20 | Your Casts deal +100% damage. |
| Gilded Dress | +10 | Gain +5 Gold whenever you exit a Location. |
| Crimson Dress | +5 | Deal more damage, growing +3% after each Encounter. |
Armor sits on top of your health as a separate buffer that absorbs hits before your life total drops, which is why even the +20 Fuchsia Dress feels generous. The Crimson Dress is the outlier: the wiki states it unlocks only once you reach the sixth affinity rank with Arachne, and it trades nearly all its Armor for a scaling damage bonus, so it behaves more like an offensive keepsake than a defensive outfit.
Match the dress to your build, not the biggest Armor number. A Cast-heavy run gets far more from the Fuchsia Dress and its +100% Cast damage than from raw Armor it will rarely need.
The Onyx Dress is the default best pick, because +60 Armor plus a free Fate Fabric helps both your run and your post-run crafting.
From there the right outfit depends on what your build already does. The table below is how I rank them by the role they fill rather than by Armor alone.
Onyx Dress (+60 Armor and a Fate Fabric)
Moonlight Dress (+55 Armor, cheaper Hex recharge)
Fuchsia Dress (+20 Armor, +100% Cast damage)
Emerald Dress (+50 Armor, heal per Location)
Azure Dress (+40 Armor, steady Magick regen)The Moonlight Dress is the sleeper pick for any build leaning on a Selene Hex, since cutting the Magick cost lets you fire it far more often while still wearing 55 Armor. In practice, the Onyx and Emerald dresses carry the most runs because flat Armor and a Location heal both scale with how long the fight drags on.
Armor does not regenerate on its own. If you want it back mid-region, pair an outfit with the Silken Sash keepsake or a Cherished Heirloom duo, or the buffer is gone for good once enemies break it.
The Silken Sash is Arachne's keepsake, and it is the only one that turns Armor into a renewable resource instead of a one-time shield.
You earn it the first time you give her Nectar, which also opens her affinity track. According to the wiki, the Sash grants +30 Armor up front, and while you hold at least 1 Armor it adds +2/3/4/6 more after each Location as it ranks up. That regrowth is the key difference: most Armor is spent and gone, but the Sash keeps topping you back up between fights.
It sits in the wider Demeter and Olympian
keepsake pool, and like every keepsake it climbs to Rare and Epic after 25 and 50 cleared encounters. Equip it on a tanky weapon you plan to grind a region with, since the per-Location Armor stacks higher the longer you keep at least one point alive.
Never let the Sash hit zero Armor. The regrowth only fires while you still hold at least 1 Armor, so a dress on top of the Sash keeps the engine running through tougher rooms.
Arachne's Trust is gated behind breaking her curse, a quest that means convincing Athena to undo what she did and dealing with the god who helped.
The wiki lays out the path. Her affinity gauge maxes at nine hearts, but the final rank only unlocks once you complete her curse prophecy. Along the way you overhear that Hecate had a hand in the curse, after which Arachne stops showing up at the Crossroads for a while, and you have to work Athena through several conversations about her.
The last step is the unusual one: equip the Gorgon Amulet keepsake and bring it to Arachne so she can speak with Athena directly. The wiki states that finishing this triggers a payoff conversation the next time you meet, and only then does the affinity gauge fully open. Players on the wiki have flagged the ending as bittersweet, since Arachne never quite apologizes the way Athena wants.
As of patch v1.0 there is no combat tied to her, so the whole arc is dialogue and gifting. It is slow, but it is also the most complete story any single Crossroads ally gets.
Arachne is a spider weaver and the first spider ever created. She was once a mortal girl who beat Athena in a weaving contest and was cursed into spider form for it. In Hades 2 she lives in Erebus and gives Melinoe Armor outfits called Silken Fineries.
Arachne is found in her own chamber in Erebus, the first underworld region. You claim a Silken Fineries outfit after entering her chamber, and she also appears at the Crossroads at points in her story.
Each Silken Fineries outfit grants Melinoe a block of Armor plus a passive bonus that holds while you keep at least some of that Armor. Armor values range from +5 up to +60, and the bonuses cover Cast damage, Magick regen, healing, Hex cost, and more.
The Onyx Dress is the strongest default at +60 Armor plus a free Fate Fabric. For a Cast build the Fuchsia Dress and its +100% Cast damage wins, and for a Hex build the Moonlight Dress pairs 55 Armor with a cheaper Hex recharge.
The Silken Sash. It grants +30 Armor, and while you hold at least 1 Armor it adds +2 to +6 more after each Location depending on its rank. You earn it the first time you give Arachne Nectar.
You complete her curse prophecy by working Athena through several conversations about Arachne, then equipping the Gorgon Amulet and bringing it to Arachne so she can speak with Athena. Finishing the quest unlocks her final affinity rank.
No. Arachne is a friendly NPC, not a boss. As of patch v1.0 there is no fight tied to her. Her whole arc is dialogue, gifting Nectar and Ambrosia, and the quest to break her curse.
Yes. A free 50 to 60 Armor from a single outfit is one of the best early defensive picks in the game, and the Silken Sash keepsake keeps that Armor renewing between Locations. The short detour in Erebus pays off across the rest of the run.
Keep building out your Hades 2 knowledge with these next stops.
