The first Bishop you fight, a blind bagworm who burrows through Darkwood and trails spikes behind him.
Leshy spends most of his fight underground, and the spike trail he leaves while burrowing kills more first-time Lambs than any attack he throws at you. The huge worm is invincible while submerged, so chasing him into the dirt only feeds you onto his spikes.
He is the youngest of the four Bishops of the Old Faith and the first true boss in the game. According to the wiki, his followers call him "The Worm," and the bandages over his eyes are a reference to the phrase "See No Evil," which is also the name of his defeat achievement.
The fight reads as simple because Leshy never rushes you, but his moveset shifts hard across three phases. New worms only spawn when he changes phase, so the whole encounter rewards clearing the arena fast and reading his fixed opening sequence.
This guide covers who Leshy is, his Darkwood arena, every attack across all three phases, the burrow-spike rule that decides the fight, and where he sits among Heket, Kallamar, Shamura, and The One Who Waits.
A burrowing bagworm who leaves a damaging spike trail and is invincible underground.
Darkwood, the first Crusade region, ending at the Darkwood Temple.
Never crowd the spikes. Hit him during his roar and his above-ground recovery, not while he is digging.
The youngest Bishop, brother to The One Who Waits and the gate to the rest of the Crusade.Leshy is the youngest of the four Bishops of the Old Faith and the ruler of Darkwood. Per the wiki, his species is a bagworm, which makes him the only Bishop whose kind is not naturally a carnivore.
He is blind. The wiki notes that the bandages wrapped over his eyes nod to "See No Evil," and that an eye only flickers into view inside his bandage once he enters his Cursed state during the fight. His Eldritch form goes further; according to the wiki, a pair of red slit-shaped eyes is faintly visible in the back of his throat.
His titles lean into ruin. The wiki lists him as "He of Havoc," "Chaos-Bringer," and "Blighter of Harvests," wearing the
Green Crown. He is one of the siblings who chained their own brother, The One Who Waits, and cast out the Red Crown that the Lamb now carries.
Leshy waits at the end of Darkwood, the first of the four Crusade regions. You reach him after clearing enough Darkwood runs to open the boss path, and the fight plays out in a single enclosed arena at the Darkwood Temple.
His health is modest for a Bishop. The wiki specifies 60 on Easy, 120 on Normal, 150 on Hard, and 180 on Extra Hard, the lowest pool of any Bishop in the game. That low ceiling is what makes him the tutorial boss for the Crusade loop.
| Difficulty | Leshy health |
|---|---|
| Easy | 60 |
| Normal | 120 |
| Hard | 150 |
| Extra Hard | 180 |
Bring a weapon you trust and a ranged Curse for the gaps. In practice, the room is large enough that you almost never need to corner yourself, which is the single biggest advantage Leshy hands you compared to his siblings.
Leshy damages the Lamb five ways, and only two of them appear after the opening phase. According to the wiki, his attacks are Burrow, Green Orbs, Spikes, Jumping, and Head Smash, with Jumping and Head Smash reserved for his later phases. He is also aided by Chaser Worms and Jumper Worms.
The worm spawns are the key to pacing the fight. The wiki states that Leshy can only summon worms when he enters a new phase, "meaning that wiping out all the enemies during a phase will ensure that no others spawn." Clear the adds fast and the arena stays clean until he transitions.
His first guaranteed action is a roar that summons Jumper Worms, and he is open to attacks during it. After that he locks into a strict sequence the wiki says he never deviates from: burrow in a random direction, shoot Green Orbs, burrow, shoot Green Orbs, burrow, then a star pattern of spikes, and repeat.
The later phases add Jumping and Head Smash, summon fresh worms, and tighten the timing between attacks. The wiki notes his AI and most of his moveset change significantly as the fight goes on, so the clean opening rhythm gives way to faster, less predictable mixups.
The roar is free damage. Leshy is open to attacks while he summons worms at the start of each phase, so treat every roar as your scheduled DPS window and burn him before he starts burrowing again.
Win Leshy by punishing his fixed sequence and refusing to chase him underground. The whole fight is built around his burrow, and the spike trail it leaves is the real damage source, not his orbs.
A fast melee weapon (hit during the roar and after each surface)
Clear worms first (no new adds spawn until he changes phase)
Stay off the dirt (the burrow trail and a submerged Leshy are both untouchable to you)Per the wiki, getting close while Leshy is underground is a trap; you take spike damage and he stays invincible, so you spend the window losing health for nothing. Sit just outside his trail and wait for him to resurface.
The worm adds decide your healing budget. After a few runs the pattern is obvious: clear Jumper and Chaser Worms the instant a phase starts, then you have an empty arena to dodge his Green Orbs and spikes until the next transition. Saving your ranged Curse for the worms keeps you from ever stepping onto a spike to reach one.
Leshy is the first of four Bishops, and beating him is the opening move in freeing The One Who Waits. The wiki frames the siblings as a countdown; Shamura puts it as "Five becomes four becomes three becomes two becomes one becomes nothing."
The other three rule their own regions and hit far harder.
Heket is next in Anura, the frog Bishop of famine.
Kallamar holds Anchordeep and is widely called the hardest Bishop in the game.
Shamura, the eldest, rules the Silk Cradle.
Each carries a colored crown, and the
Red Crown the Lamb wears is the one they cast out. Leshy is the gentle introduction to a difficulty curve that climbs steeply from here; see the full Bishops of the Old Faith order for how the rest escalate.
Leshy is the first step of the Crusade. These guides cover the weapons, Curses, and the Bishops who come after him.
