Ebony Wings Vampire Survivors Guide

Ebony Wings icon, a weapon in Vampire Survivors
Patch v1.13 / Base game weapon

Bird-orbit bombardment zone. Counterclockwise, scales with every stat. Unions with Peachone.

Base damage: 10Cooldown: 1.0s base, 0.5s maxUnion: Vandalier (Peachone)

Ebony Wings orbits counterclockwise around the player, which matters because Peachone (its union partner) orbits the opposite direction. The wiki effects block specifies the rotation axis directly: Ebony Wings is the counterclockwise bird, Peachone is the clockwise bird. Running both produces an X-pattern double sweep rather than a single rotating zone, which is the visual signature of a pre-Vandalier build.

The second buried mechanic is the Area vs. Orbit Ring distinction. According to the wiki, Area on Ebony Wings increases the size of the projectile hitboxes inside the orbit ring, NOT the ring radius itself. The bombardment circle stays a fixed distance from the player, so stacking Candelabrador widens the individual bomb hits rather than pushing the kill zone outward.

Build context. Ebony Wings is Exdash Exiviiq's starting weapon, unlocked by leveling Peachone to level 7 on any run. The union into Vandalier requires both birds at max level (level 8) and a chest open after minute 11. No passive item gates the union, which makes it one of the cleanest union chains in the base game.

This guide covers the counterclockwise orbit mechanic, the Area-scales-AoE-not-ring rule, the Vandalier union that needs Peachone at max, the best Exdash build, and the bird-lag visual quirk where the sprite trails behind the active bombardment zone.

  • What it is Ebony Wings icon Ebony Wings, Exdash Exiviiq's base game starter. Bird-orbit bombardment that revolves counterclockwise.
  • Unions into Vandalier icon Vandalier at max level when paired with a max-level Peachone icon Peachone. No passive gate.
  • Best with Duplicator icon Duplicator, Empty Tome icon Empty Tome, and any stat source. Scales with every stat bonus.
  • Skip when the run cannot also support Peachone leveling. Without the Peachone half, Ebony Wings stays a single-orbit weapon instead of the Vandalier union.

How Ebony Wings Works

Ebony Wings is a bird that flies around the player and bombards a circling zone with projectiles. The wiki effects block specifies the rotation direction: the zone revolves counterclockwise around the player. The bird sprite itself moves slightly slower than the bombardment circle, which produces a visible lag between sprite position and active damage zone.

Per the wiki, the weapon scales with all stat bonuses without an Ignores list. Might, Area, Speed, Duration, Amount, Cooldown, and Luck all stack into damage output. The set firing is on a different timer from the zone activation, so the first projectile can spawn up to a second after the bombardment circle lights up. This is intentional, not lag.

Damage starts at 10 and climbs to 30 at level 8 (+20 over the track). Cooldown shrinks from 1.0 second to 0.5 second (-0.5), which is unusual: most weapons shrink Cooldown by smaller amounts. Amount climbs from 4 to 11 (+7), more than doubling the projectile density. According to the wiki, Area scales the AoE of each projectile but NOT the radius of the orbit ring itself.

Build Tip

Take Duplicator AND a Cooldown source on the first two level-up screens. The Cooldown halves from 1.0s to 0.5s natively, but Empty Tome and Clock Lancet pickups stack further on top. With both stacked, the bombardment zone fires roughly 4-5 sets per second at max level, which is enough density to cover the full orbit ring continuously.

Per the wiki, Limit Break further scales Ebony Wings across Might, Area, Speed, Duration, and Amount increments. Bird-sprite movement responds to Move Speed bonuses, which can pull the sprite further behind the bombardment ring visually but does not affect the kill zone position. In actual play, this is cosmetic.

Vandalier Union with Peachone

Ebony Wings does not evolve. It UNIONS into Vandalier with Peachone, which is a different mechanic from the standard passive-item evolution gate. The wiki specifies both birds must reach max level (level 8) and a chest must open after minute 11. No passive item is involved. The Peachone-Ebony Wings union is the archetype for double-weapon unions in Vampire Survivors.

Per the wiki, Peachone unlocks by leveling Pummarola to a target level, and Ebony Wings unlocks by leveling Peachone to level 7. The two birds appear as separate weapons in the pool once unlocked. Running both simultaneously is the prerequisite for Vandalier, which is one of the highest base game damage ceilings in the standard pool.

Ebony Wings (max)Peachone (max)Vandalier
Build Tip

Pick Peachone at the FIRST opportunity, even before Ebony Wings if it appears earlier. Per the wiki, the union requires both birds at level 8 by minute 11. Peachone\'s level climb is the limiter on the union chest, not Ebony Wings, since Ebony Wings is usually already the starter. Bricking the union almost always comes from a Peachone stuck at level 6.

Best Exdash Exiviiq Build for Ebony Wings

Exdash Exiviiq is the coffin character whose stats and starter directly feed the Vandalier union path. The build below front-loads Peachone for the union gate, then layers Duplicator and Cooldown sources to push the orbit density to maximum before the union fires.

Character Exdash Exiviiq character iconExdash Exiviiq (coffin pick; Luck and Growth bonuses)
Weapon 2 Peachone weapon iconPeachone (union partner; level 8 required for Vandalier)
Passive 1 Duplicator passive iconDuplicator (Amount stacks both birds simultaneously)
Passive 2 Empty Tome passive iconEmpty Tome (Cooldown shrinks both bird cycles)
Passive 3 Spinach passive iconSpinach (Might scales the +20 damage track on both birds)
Passive 4 Crown passive iconCrown (Growth accelerates both birds to level 8 in time for the minute-11 union chest)
Passive 5 Wings passive iconWings (Move Speed pulls Exdash through the arena faster; cosmetic on the birds but useful for survival)
Passive 6 Attractorb passive iconAttractorb (XP gem magnet; speeds the level climb so both birds hit max before minute 11)

Across multiple runs, this build hits the Vandalier union around minute 11 once both birds reach max and Duplicator+Empty Tome push the cycle to maximum density. Past minute 18, Vandalier with stacked Amount covers a 360-degree kill zone around the player that handles most hyper-stage spawn pressure.

Synergies and Arcanas

The wiki Combos table lists two separate sets of stat picks: one for the regular Ebony Wings build and one for runs with the Gemini (I) arcana. Per the wiki, Gemini duplicates the active weapon set, which changes the passive priority because every +Amount tick scales the doubled set rather than the single set. Without Gemini, Duplicator and Empty Tome are the priority picks.

Sapphire Mist (I) is a strong arcana pair because the extra activation chance feeds the rapid 0.5-second Cooldown post-level-8. Mad Groove (VIII) is the alternative when the run wants to pull gems into the orbit zone for safer collection during high-density waves. Per the wiki, the bombardment circle overlaps the orbit ring, so any pickup that drifts inward gets vacuumed up naturally.

In real runs, Ebony Wings pairs cleanly with any weapon that benefits from shared Amount and Cooldown scaling. The wiki notes that Pummarola is also worth carrying on Exdash because the character has thin survival tooling past minute 16. Recovery from Pummarola keeps the run alive while both birds establish the orbit pattern.

Ebony Wings Versus Peachone

Ebony Wings and Peachone are the two halves of the Vandalier union, and both work through the same orbit-and-bombard pattern. Per the wiki, the key difference is rotation direction: Ebony Wings revolves counterclockwise, Peachone revolves clockwise. Running both simultaneously creates an X-pattern sweep that catches enemies from both directions in the same orbit ring.

Pick Ebony Wings as the lead when running Exdash Exiviiq or any character who already starts with it. Pick Peachone as the lead when running characters who start with Peachone instead (Pugnala Provola, for instance). In practice, the question is moot: the build wants BOTH birds online by minute 11 for the Vandalier union, so the lead role only matters for the first 4 minutes of any run.

Common Ebony Wings Mistakes

  1. Skipping Peachone for a more "fun" weapon. Per the wiki, the Vandalier union requires both birds at level 8. Skipping Peachone for Garlic or Cross means the run ends at minute 11 with two un-evolved weapons instead of the Vandalier ceiling. Pick Peachone every offered screen until level 8.
  2. Stacking Candelabrador expecting bigger orbit. The wiki specifies that Area scales the AoE of projectiles, NOT the radius of the orbit ring. Players who stack Area expecting a wider kill zone get larger projectile hitboxes inside the same ring instead.
  3. Misreading the bird-lag as a bug. The bird sprite moves slower than the bombardment circle, which produces a visible lag between sprite and active damage zone. Per the wiki, this is intentional. The kill zone is the circle, not the bird.
  4. Timing the union past minute 11. The wiki specifies the union chest fires the same way as other evolution chests: any chest opened after minute 11 when both gates are met. Standing on a chest before minute 11 consumes it without firing the union. Wait for the timer.
  5. Treating it as a single-Amount weapon. Amount climbs from 4 to 11 across the level track (+7). Duplicator stacks on top, which can push Vandalier toward 20+ projectiles per cycle. Builds that treat Amount as low priority leave the biggest multiplier on the table.

Ebony Wings FAQ

How do you unlock Ebony Wings in Vampire Survivors?

Level Peachone to level 7 on any single run. The unlock fires the moment the level ticks over, regardless of whether the run continues. Peachone itself unlocks by leveling Pummarola.

How do you evolve Ebony Wings?

Ebony Wings does not evolve. It unions with Peachone into Vandalier when both birds are at max level (level 8) and any chest opens after minute 11. No passive item is required for the union itself.

What is the Vandalier union?

Vandalier is the union of Ebony Wings and Peachone. Per the wiki, both birds must reach level 8 and a chest must open after minute 11. Vandalier is one of the highest base game damage ceilings in the standard pool.

Which direction does Ebony Wings orbit?

Counterclockwise. Per the wiki, Ebony Wings revolves counterclockwise around the player while Peachone revolves clockwise. Running both produces an X-pattern sweep that catches enemies from both rotation directions.

Does Area increase the Ebony Wings orbit ring size?

No. Per the wiki, Area increases the AoE of the projectiles inside the orbit ring but NOT the radius of the ring itself. The bombardment circle stays a fixed distance from the player regardless of Area stacks.

Does Move Speed affect Ebony Wings?

Slightly. Per the wiki, the bird sprite moves faster with Move Speed bonuses, but the bombardment circle stays in position relative to the player. The effect is largely cosmetic and does not increase damage or kill zone size.

Is Ebony Wings a starting weapon?

Yes. Ebony Wings is Exdash Exiviiq's starting weapon. It can also be picked by other characters once unlocked, since the weapon enters the standard pool after leveling Peachone to 7.

Is Ebony Wings DLC?

No. Ebony Wings is a base game weapon, not a DLC pickup. No DLC purchase is required to unlock Exdash, Ebony Wings, Peachone, or the Vandalier union.
