Duplicator is the dedicated Amount passive item. It adds +1 extra projectile per level, capping at +2 Amount at level 2 (one of only two passives with a 2-level cap, alongside Tirajisu). It is required for four evolutions: Thunder Loop, Echo Night, Gungnir-Souris, and Tenebris Tonitrus.

Duplicator is the canonical Amount passive item. It adds +1 extra projectile per level with a maximum of 2 levels for +2 Amount total. Amount adds extra projectiles to most weapons, which translates directly to extra damage and screen coverage. Duplicator works best on weapons with high damage but few projectiles.
Duplicator is a passive item in Vampire Survivors that boosts the Amount stat, and in our experience the highest-leverage 2-level passive in the game. Per the official Vampire Survivors Wiki and patch v0.5.0 documentation, Duplicator grants +1 Amount per level with a maximum of 2 levels (+2 Amount total). It is one of only two passive items with a 2-level cap rather than the standard 5 levels.
| Level | Cumulative Amount Bonus |
|---|---|
| Level 1 | +1 Amount (1 extra projectile) |
| Level 2 (max) | +2 Amount (2 extra projectiles) |
Per the official wiki, Amount determines how many EXTRA projectiles a weapon has. The base Amount value is 0. A level 2 Whip has 2 base slashes; with +1 Amount, it produces 3 slashes (2 base + 1 from Amount). Crucially, Amount is additive on top of the weapon's base projectile count, not a multiplier.
This makes Duplicator extremely valuable on weapons that have low base Amount but high per-projectile damage. Adding +2 projectiles to an Axe (base Amount 1, base damage 20) doubles its total output. Adding +2 to a Magic Wand (base Amount around 6, base damage 5) only adds about 33% more output.
Duplicator unlocks by leveling the Magic Wand to level 7 in a single run. Pasqualina Belpaese (or any character that can pick Magic Wand on a level-up) can do this on Mad Forest within 6 to 8 minutes by prioritizing Magic Wand on every level-up roll.
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Pick any character. Pasqualina is a strong candidate because she also lets you unlock Spellbinder via Runetracer level 7 in the same family of unlocks. |
| 2 | Pick any base game stage. Mad Forest is recommended for clean leveling. |
| 3 | Pick Magic Wand on the first level-up that offers it. Then prioritize Magic Wand on every subsequent level-up until level 7. |
| 4 | Once Magic Wand reaches level 7, Duplicator unlocks immediately and is added to the level-up pool for all future runs. |
Magic Wand reaches max level 8 normally, so getting to level 7 is one level short of the typical max. Most players unlock Duplicator passively in their first dozen runs without targeting it, since Magic Wand is one of the most common starter level-up choices. The unlock persists across all future runs and characters. The pattern is similar to the Spellbinder unlock via Runetracer level 7.
Duplicator is required for four evolutions across base game and DLCs. Lightning Ring + Duplicator (any level) → Thunder Loop (base game). Summon Night + Duplicator (max) → Echo Night (Tides of the Foscari DLC). Trident + Duplicator (max) → Gungnir-Souris (Castlevania DLC). Fulgur + Duplicator (max) → Tenebris Tonitrus (Castlevania DLC).
Thunder Loop is the base game evolution for the Lightning Ring. The evolved weapon strikes random enemies on screen with chained lightning bolts. Thunder Loop is one of the most common Duplicator builds because it is accessible without DLC. Compare with Curse-stacking strategies for similar high-output approaches.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Base Weapon | Lightning Ring at level 8 (max). See our final boss guide for late-game scaling. |
| Passive Item | Duplicator (any level, including just level 1) |
| Trigger | Open a treasure chest after the 10-minute mark |
| Result | Lightning Ring removed; Thunder Loop added |
Echo Night is from the Tides of the Foscari DLC. Per the official wiki, this evolution requires Duplicator at maximum level (level 2). Summon Night at level 8 + Duplicator at level 2 + treasure chest = Echo Night.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Base Weapon | Summon Night at level 8 (max) |
| Passive Item | Duplicator at level 2 (max) |
| DLC | Tides of the Foscari (paid) |
Gungnir-Souris is the evolved Trident from the Ode to Castlevania DLC.
Trident is the starting weapon of Isaac and unlocks the Castlevania-themed character chain that connects to Kappa farming runs. Evolving it unlocks Saint Germain as a playable character, making this evolution a major unlock chain step.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Base Weapon | Trident at level 8 (max) |
| Passive Item | Duplicator at level 2 (max) |
| DLC | Ode to Castlevania (paid) |
| Bonus | Evolving Trident unlocks Saint Germain as a playable character |
Tenebris Tonitrus is the evolved
Fulgur, also from the Ode to Castlevania DLC. Fulgur is the starting weapon of
Yoko Belnades and can also be picked from Belnades' Spellbook. Tenebris Tonitrus fires lightning balls in random directions while keeping Fulgur as a hidden weapon.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Base Weapon | Fulgur at level 8 (max) |
| Passive Item | Duplicator at level 2 (max) |
| DLC | Ode to Castlevania (paid) |
Duplicator pairs best with weapons that have low base Amount but high per-projectile damage. Axe, Fire Wand, Lightning Ring, Cherry Bomb, and Cross all see massive damage gains from +2 Amount. Magic Wand and other high-Amount weapons benefit less.
| Weapon | Base Amount | Duplicator Value |
|---|---|---|
Axe / Death Spiral | 1 | 3x output (1 to 3 projectiles) |
Fire Wand / Hellfire | 1 | 3x output |
Lightning Ring / Thunder Loop | 1 | 3x output (canonical pairing) |
| Cross / Heaven Sword | 1 to 3 | Significant boost |
| Cherry Bomb | 1 | 3x output |
Magic Wand / Holy Wand | 6+ | Marginal (+33% at most) |
| Garlic / Soul Eater | N/A | No effect (ignores Amount) |
| Bone | 3 | Modest (+66%) |
Per the official Vampire Survivors Wiki, Soul Eater and several aura-style weapons explicitly ignore the Amount stat entirely. These weapons cannot be improved by Duplicator at any level, and should be paired with other passives like Spellbinder (for Duration scaling) or Empty Tome (for Cooldown reduction) instead, since those stats actually affect aura damage output.
Pasqualina (Magic Wand unlock + general Lightning Ring scaling), Isaac (Trident starter for Gungnir-Souris), Yoko Belnades (Fulgur starter for Tenebris Tonitrus), Carrie and Cornell (start with +1 Amount), and Trevor Belmont (gains Amount with level) all benefit most.
| Character | Why It Pairs | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Pasqualina Belpaese | Used to unlock Duplicator via Magic Wand | Default unlock character |
Isaac | Starts with Trident | Required for Gungnir-Souris evolution |
Yoko Belnades | Starts with Fulgur | Required for Tenebris Tonitrus evolution |
Saint Germain | +10 starting Banish; smooth evolution chains | Unlocked via Trident evolution |
| Carrie, Cornell | Start with +1 Amount built-in | Castlevania DLC |
| Trevor Belmont | +1 Amount per 10 levels (max +3 at level 30) | Strong scaling character |
| Hammer | +1 Amount start; doubles while invulnerable | Best Amount scaling in the game |
Amount is additive (not multiplicative) on top of base weapon projectile counts. Duplicator at max gives +2. Academy Badge can give up to +3. Beginning (X) arcana adds +3 to the starting weapon. Stacked together, Amount can exceed +10 on top of base counts, dramatically multiplying low-base weapons.
| Source | Amount Bonus |
|---|---|
Duplicator (max level 2) | +2 Amount |
| Academy Badge (max level 6) | +3 Amount (every even level) |
| Beginning (X) Arcana | +3 to starting weapon, +1 to Bone/Cherry Bomb/Carrello/Celestial Dusting/La Robba |
| Gennaro and Sigma | +1 Amount (starting bonus) |
| Ambrojoe (start) | +10 Amount, decreases by 2 per level until normal at level 6 |
| Trevor Belmont (level scaling) | +1 per 10 levels, max +3 at level 30 |
| Hammer character | +1 start; +1 per 20 levels max +3; doubled while invulnerable |
Combining Duplicator with Academy Badge on a high-Amount character produces +5 Amount on a base weapon. On Lightning Ring (base 1 projectile), this means 6 lightning bolts per cast, a 6x output increase from baseline. The combo is one of the highest-leverage passive stacks in the game.
Once unlocked, Duplicator appears as a stage pickup on Cappella Magna, Moongolow, Boss Rash, and Mt.Moonspell. Cappella Magna is the most reliable late-game source, and the same stage where Greatest Jubilee farming often happens. Moongolow is the most accessible mid-game location.
| Stage | DLC Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Cappella Magna | Base game | Standard late-game stage source |
Moongolow | Base game | All standard passives spawn here |
| Boss Rash | Base game | Challenge stage; fastest passive collection |
| Mt.Moonspell | Legacy of the Moonspell (paid) | Multiple Duplicator-pairing weapons available |
The Pasqualina build leans on Lightning Ring as the main carry weapon. Thunder Loop scales aggressively with Amount, making Duplicator at max level the highest-priority passive after the unlock requirements are met.
| Slot | Item |
|---|---|
| Weapon 1 | Lightning Ring / Thunder Loop |
| Weapon 2 | Magic Wand / Holy Wand |
| Weapon 3 | King Bible / Unholy Vespers |
| Weapon 4 | Laurel / Crimson Shroud |
| Weapon 5 | Garlic / Soul Eater |
| Weapon 6 | Cross / Heaven Sword |
| Passive 1 | Duplicator (max) |
| Passive 2 | Empty Tome |
| Passive 3 | Spinach |
| Passive 4 | Hollow Heart |
| Passive 5 | Pummarola |
| Passive 6 | Crown |
Isaac's Trident pairs with Duplicator to evolve into Gungnir-Souris on the Ode to Castlevania stage. The build doubles as a Saint Germain unlock run since evolving Trident also unlocks the additional character. Use the Castlevania-themed weapon set for thematic consistency.
On standard runs, take Duplicator from the first level-up roll to compress the unlock window. On evolution-targeting runs, plan for Duplicator to be consumed at the 10-minute chest and pick it up again from a stage spawn. On multi-evolution Castlevania runs, Duplicator may need to be re-acquired 2 to 3 times across the run.
For standard Thunder Loop runs (the canonical single-evolution use case), pick up Duplicator at level 1 from a level-up roll as soon as it appears. The level 1 grant of +1 Amount is enough to satisfy the Thunder Loop evolution requirement, since Lightning Ring + Duplicator at any level evolves into Thunder Loop. There is no need to push to level 2 unless the build also targets Echo Night, Gungnir-Souris, or Tenebris Tonitrus.
The Ode to Castlevania DLC introduces multiple Duplicator-dependent evolutions in one run. Trident + Duplicator (max) and Fulgur + Duplicator (max) can both be triggered on the same Castlevania stage. Plan the run as follows. First, level Duplicator to max (level 2) before any 10-minute chest. Trigger the first evolution, accept that Duplicator is consumed, then re-acquire Duplicator from a stage spawn or another level-up roll. Push it back to level 2 before the second evolution chest.
Players new to Duplicator often misuse it in these ways:
The Tides of the Foscari DLC added the Limit Break mechanic, which allows weapons to scale beyond their normal max level. On Limit Break builds, Duplicator pairs especially well because Amount keeps scaling with each Limit Break tier. Lightning Ring with Limit Break tier 5 plus Duplicator at level 2 plus Academy Badge at level 6 produces extreme projectile counts. The build excels in long Endless Mode runs where weapons hit Limit Break tiers reliably.
Duplicator unlocks by leveling the Magic Wand to level 7 in a single run. Most characters can pick Magic Wand from level-up rolls; Pasqualina Belpaese is one option. Pick any base game stage, prioritize Magic Wand on every level-up, and Duplicator unlocks the moment Magic Wand reaches level 7. The unlock persists across all future runs.
Duplicator is required for four evolutions. Lightning Ring + Duplicator (any level) evolves into Thunder Loop (base game). Summon Night + Duplicator (max) evolves into Echo Night (Tides of the Foscari DLC). Trident + Duplicator (max) evolves into Gungnir-Souris (Castlevania DLC). Fulgur + Duplicator (max) evolves into Tenebris Tonitrus (Castlevania DLC).
Duplicator has 2 levels, the lowest of any standard passive item except Tirajisu. Each level adds +1 Amount, capping at +2 Amount at level 2. The 2-level cap makes Duplicator one of the fastest passives to max in a run, often reaching maximum level within the first 5 to 10 minutes.
Lightning Ring (base 1 projectile, evolving into Thunder Loop) is the canonical pairing. Per the official wiki, Axe and Fire Wand also benefit dramatically because they have low base Amount but high per-projectile damage. Magic Wand benefits less because it already has many low-damage projectiles. Soul Eater and similar aura weapons explicitly ignore Amount and gain nothing from Duplicator.
Once unlocked, Duplicator appears on Cappella Magna, Moongolow, Boss Rash, and Mt.Moonspell. Cappella Magna is the most reliable late-game source. Moongolow is the most accessible mid-game location since it spawns every standard passive (except Torrona's Box). Picking up Duplicator from a stage saves a level-up roll.
Per community guides, Duplicator is widely considered top-tier. Its 2-level cap means it reaches maximum quickly, and the +2 Amount affects almost every weapon in the game. It is also the only source of Amount via passive items aside from the Tides of the Foscari Academy Badge. For most builds with at least one low-Amount carry weapon, Duplicator is a near-mandatory pickup.
No. Per the wiki, several weapon types ignore Amount entirely. Soul Eater and other aura weapons do not benefit. Bracelet, Bi-Bracelet, and Tri-Bracelet have unique projectile mechanics not affected by standard Amount. Most direct-fire weapons benefit, with the magnitude depending on their base Amount value. Always check whether the weapons in the build use Amount before committing to Duplicator.
Per the official wiki, the passive item is consumed when the evolution triggers. Duplicator is removed from the inventory and can be re-picked up through level-ups or stage spawns provided there is an empty passive slot. On runs that need Duplicator for multiple evolutions (Thunder Loop AND Gungnir-Souris in Castlevania, for example), plan to re-acquire it between evolution chests.
