The red-eyed follower with a megaphone, ranting falsehoods to drain your Faith and set to rob you blind before deserting.
A Dissenter is the one follower who can quietly wreck your cult from the inside. They pull out a megaphone, shout lies about the Lamb to drain everyone's Faith, and after a few days they rob you and run.
They are easy to spot. According to the wiki, a Dissenter has red eyes, a low-faith icon over their head, and an angry face, running around camp instead of working.
The good news is they are fixable. The wiki notes you can re-educate, imprison, feed, or simply remove a Dissenter before they cost you a fortune.
This guide covers what a Dissenter is, what turns a follower into one, and every way to fix or get rid of them before they steal your Coin.
A fallen follower who drains Faith with a megaphone.
Low Faith, neglected children, or low-faith recruits.
They steal Coin and desert after a few days.
Re-educate, jail, feed, or remove them.A Dissenter is a fallen
follower who has turned against the Lamb. Per the wiki, they are marked by red eyes, a low-faith icon, and a permanent scowl, and interacting with one shows them ranting in your face.
They actively sabotage the cult. According to the wiki, instead of working, a Dissenter runs around camp with a megaphone yelling falsehoods that drain Faith, and nearby followers may start to doubt the Lamb, look frightened, or even cry.
Left alone, they become theft on legs. The wiki states that after a few days a Dissenter steals money from the cult and runs away, so an ignored Dissenter is a ticking clock on your
Coin.
Dissent almost always traces back to low Faith. Per the wiki, having low Faith in your cult is the main trigger, so a poorly maintained flock breeds Dissenters on its own.
Neglected children are a hidden source. According to the wiki, a child neglected enough times while growing up will fully dissent regardless of its starting
trait, then leave the cult with stolen gold the moment it becomes an adult.
Some Dissenters are forced on you. The wiki notes that recruiting low-faith followers through a follower quest brings them in pre-dissented, and
Shamura forcefully dissents followers during their later encounters in the
Silk Cradle, turning them into enemies you must kill.
The kindest fix is re-education. Per the wiki, the Lamb can hold open a book and preach to a Dissenter once per day to raise their Faith, though trying twice in one day just gets you turned away.
Prison speeds it up. According to the wiki, a jailed Dissenter cannot spread falsehood and gains Faith faster when re-educated, and
Disciple followers can even re-educate them for you, though any Dissenter with the Unlawful trait may break out.
Food is the fastest cure. The wiki specifies that feeding a Dissenter a Magnificent Mixed Meal instantly stops them dissenting, guaranteed.
Jail them (no falsehood, faster re-education)
Magnificent Mixed Meal (guaranteed instant cure)Keep your Coin low if a Dissenter is about to bolt. In practice Dissenters steal a share of your Coin when they leave, so spending it or converting it to gold bars first means they run off with far less of your treasury.
Sometimes it is cleaner to cut a Dissenter loose. Per the wiki, they can be sacrificed, eaten, ascended, or executed with the Murder Follower action, exactly like any other follower.
There are lethal food options too. According to the wiki, a Deadly Dish has a 75% chance to instantly kill a Dissenter, while Minced Follower Meat has a 40% chance to stop the dissent but a 75% chance to make them
sick.
Killing is not always final. The wiki notes that a deserted Dissenter can return as a weapon-wielding
mini-boss on crusades, and any Dissenter you kill can be brought back through the
Ritual of Resurrection if you change your mind.
Curing a jailed Dissenter is oddly sweet. Per the wiki, once a jailed follower stops dissenting, their eyes return to normal and they smile, wave, and call out to the Lamb to be released.
One trait ignores them entirely. According to the wiki, the Zealous
follower trait makes a follower ignore Dissenters when they preach, so a Zealous flock resists the Faith drain.
Sin rituals can consume them. The wiki ties Dissenters into the darker
Sin rituals, since sacrificing or eating a troublemaker is a common use for a follower who was going to leave anyway.
Dissenters are the flip side of a happy cult. These guides cover the boss that creates them, the rituals that deal with them, and the doctrines that stop them appearing.
