Per the wiki they are a sheep with two large curled reddish horns and an iron mask that weeps tear-like threads, hiding the charred, bandaged face that earned them the alias The Charred.
They were trained by the best. According to the wiki, Rami's former mentor was Kudaai, the master weaponsmith, and Rami dreams of working Legendary Weapons in their own forge to make that old master proud.
They serve a fallen god. The wiki lists Rami as one of the disciples of

Rami's smithing service does not start until you bring them back and fix their workshop. Per the wiki, Rami awakens confused and in pain, asking whether the Ritual worked and where Yngya is, before you help restore their ruined forge.
Repairing the forge lights the fire. According to the wiki, once the forge is fixed Rami declares they will bend ore to their will, then sheepishly walks the boast back, and the smithing service opens for business.
From there they run on materials. The wiki states you hand Rami one Legendary Weapon Fragment plus 5 Wool to restore a Legendary Weapon, and the Wool cost rises by 5 for each new fragment you bring, so later repairs cost more than the first.
Stockpile Wool before you start turning in fragments. In practice each repair costs 5 more Wool than the last, so bank a healthy Wool reserve from ranching before you begin the run of Legendary Weapon repairs.
Rami's real purpose is the Legendary Weapon hunt, one of Woolhaven's biggest quests. Per the wiki, Rami tells the Lamb "there are 6 lost Legendary Weapons" scattered deep in the mountain, and the Woolhaven residents can point you toward them.
