The acidic shrine lake in northwest Greenpath. Houses Unn the Higher Being, the Shape of Unn charm, a hidden Quirrel cutscene, plus the Mosskin worship temple.
The Lake of Unn is the Mosskin holy site at the northwest end of Greenpath. Per the wiki, it is "an acidic lake located at the northwest part of Greenpath that can be accessed after defeating Hornet." A small stone shrine sits on the eastern shore; the goddess lives at the bottom of the acid pool across from it.
The buried lede is the dream. According to the wiki, Unn is "a Higher Being" whose worshippers believe she "created all of the area's flora and the Mosskin themselves from her dreams." She is the only Higher Being who predates the Pale King in Hallownest, and the only one who lets the player reach her in person.
The wiki specifies the lake holds two rewards. The Shape of Unn charm sits "in a hidden area to the west of the lake, given by Unn herself." The lake is crossed "with Isma's Tear or a very well-timed use of Crystal Heart on the wall above the acid."
This guide covers the post-Hornet access route, the shrine bench and Quirrel cinematic, the lake-crossing methods with Isma's Tear or precise Super Dash, the Unn cinematic and Shape of Unn charm reward, the Higher Being lore and dream-creation mythology, the Mosskin Tribe worship and "law of Unn" lore tablets, and the Aluba and Moss Knight enemy roster.
Acid shrine lake in northwest Greenpath.

Isma's Tear or a frame-tight Crystal Heart Super Dash.
Pre-Hornet fight; the Mothwing-Cloak gate stays closed.Per the wiki, the Lake of Unn is the sacred site of the Mosskin Tribe and the home of the Higher Being Unn. It sits "in the northwest part of Greenpath, to the left of the arena where Hornet is fought." Visually it is a wide green acid pool with a stone pier on the east shore.
According to the wiki, the eastern shore holds "a small structure with a stone statue of what appears to be Unn and a Bench inside." A lone Moss Knight stands on the edge of the pier next to the shrine. The structure doubles as a fast-travel rest stop and as the Mosskin temple.
The wiki specifies the goddess "can be encountered at the bottom of the lake." Reaching her requires the player to cross the acid pool to the western shore, then walk into a hidden corridor that descends below the lake surface.
Per the wiki, the lake "can be accessed after defeating Hornet." The Hornet boss fight rewards Mothwing Cloak, which is the mid-air dash needed to reach the lake corridor from the main Greenpath central junction.
According to the wiki, the route opens west from the Hornet arena into a downward corridor lined with Moss Knights and Aluba patrols. The Aluba is "an enemy in Hollow Knight" that swoops down from above; players who miss the swoop drop into the acid directly.
The wiki notes the same Hornet fight gates almost every late-game pickup. The lake becomes reachable on the first post-Hornet Greenpath visit; in practice, most players route directly here after Hornet for the bench rest and the Quirrel meeting.
Buy the Greenpath map from Cornifer before the Hornet fight. According to the wiki, Cornifer sits in the upper central Greenpath chamber on the corridor east of the Hornet arena. In practice, the map saves 15-20 minutes of corridor memorization on the post-Hornet lake run.
Per the wiki, the lake shrine is where Quirrel first appears in the game. He sits at the bench staring at the acid pool, then shares a long introduction about wanderers in Hallownest and the feeling of returning familiarity.
According to the wiki, the shrine is one of the three Quirrel meeting points across the game (the others are the Teacher's Archives entry and Blue Lake). Skipping the shrine bench breaks his arc; his Archives monologue references the lake meeting and will not trigger without the first scene.
The wiki specifies the shrine stone statue depicts "what appears to be Unn" but the shape is intentionally ambiguous. Snail-curled, horn-tipped, and amorphous; the visual matches the Shape of Unn charm icon and the boss-mode silhouette of Unn herself.
Per the wiki, the lake "can be crossed with Isma's Tear or a very well-timed use of Crystal Heart on the wall above the acid." Both routes are valid; each has different prereq costs.
| Method | Prereq | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Isma's Tear acid swim | Defeat Dung Defender post-Monarch Wings | Trivial, walk across |
| Crystal Heart Super Dash | Crystal Peak Mantis-Claw gauntlet | Frame-tight wall dash |
| Hazard Respawn skip | None (intentional Mask sacrifice) | Tedious; costs masks |
According to the wiki, the Crystal Heart route is the standard speedrun cross. The Super Dash starts from the east-shore wall at a specific height; releasing the dash too early drops the Knight into the acid mid-flight. In practice, the Crystal Heart cross unlocks the Shape of Unn charm without waiting for Isma's Tear.
Per the wiki, the Shape of Unn charm sits "in a hidden area to the west of the lake, given by Unn herself." Walking into the corridor behind the western shore triggers the Unn cinematic; she extends a single tendril toward the Knight, the charm drops on the pedestal in front of her, and she retreats into the dream.
According to the wiki, Shape of Unn is a 2-notch charm. While the Knight is using Focus, they transform into a slug shape that lets them move and dodge during the heal animation. The charm is one of two heal-movement charms (the other is Quick Focus which speeds up Focus instead).
The wiki specifies the standard pairing is Shape of Unn + Spore Shroom + Deep Focus. Deep Focus heals 2 Masks per cast at slower speed; Shape of Unn cancels the slowdown penalty because the slug shape still moves at walking speed.
Per the wiki, Unn is "one of the Higher Beings" who predates Hallownest. The Mosskin Tribe worships her and built the lake shrine in her honour; the Pale King "allowed the Mosskin to continue worshipping Unn as long as they respected his roads."
According to the wiki, the Greenpath lore tablets carry her dialogue: "in every bush and every vine the mind of Unn reveals itself to us." Another tablet reads "the greater mind once dreamed of leaf and cast these caverns so." She is the only Higher Being whose creation mythology is explicit in the game.
The wiki specifies one tablet flags her rivalry with the Pale King: "though once our lands, a pale being lays claim to the caverns ahead. It may appear benevolent but it does not share our dream. Be wary to wander that place." The Mosskin warn travellers against the king's path.
Per the wiki, the lake corridor has only two enemy types: Aluba (swooping pollen-carrying birds) and Moss Knight (a lone sentinel at the pier). Both are distinct from the rest of Greenpath's overgrown husk roster.
| Enemy | Behaviour | Counter |
|---|---|---|
| Aluba | Swoops down at lateral player movement | Track upward, slash on descent path |
| Moss Knight | Pier sentinel; pogo-jump combo | Standard dodge then nail flurry |
According to the wiki, the Moss Knight on the pier is unique inside the lake sub-area. Other Moss Knights in Greenpath spawn in arenas or guard chests; the pier Moss Knight is the only one standing guard at a holy site, hinting at the Mosskin religious hierarchy.
The Lake of Unn is the cleanest Higher-Being lore beat in Greenpath and the source of one of the best charms in the game. These spokes pick up the threads around the lake and Greenpath.
