Hollow Knight Crystal Peak Guide

Crystal Peak icon, the glittering mining mountain east of Dirtmouth in Hollow Knight
Region / Hollow Knight (Patch v1.4.3)

The huge glittering mountain east of Dirtmouth carved into crystal mines. Holds Crystal Heart Super Dash, Crystal Guardian boss, Myla the miner, Pale Ore, plus Hallownest’s Crown peak.

Boss: Crystal GuardianAbility: Crystal HeartOre: Pale Ore x2

Crystal Peak is the "huge glittering mountain located east of Dirtmouth," per the wiki. Hallownest carved mines into the peak to harvest the crystals; the entire region runs on conveyor belts, crystal-spike hazards, and Husk Miner enemies.

The buried lede is the energy. According to the wiki, Quirrel describes it: "the crystal ore is said to contain a sort of energy, not as powerful as the soul the city dwellers harnessed but far less lethal." The Crystal Heart Super Dash and the Crystallised Husks both draw on that energy.

The wiki specifies the Peak houses three progression beats. Crystal Heart inside the old mining golem, Crystal Guardian plus Mask Shard at the centre bench, and one of six Pale Ore deposits for the Pure Nail.

This guide covers the three access routes from Dirtmouth, Resting Grounds, and the Crossroads, the Crystal Guardian fight and Enraged Guardian Monarch-Wings gate, Myla’s Infection corruption arc, the Hidden Station tram link, the Hallownest’s Crown peak Whispering Root and Vessel Fragment, and the Crystallised Mound Descending Dark side-area.

  • Boss Crystal Guardian icon Crystal Guardian at the centre bench; Enraged variant above.
  • Skip when Mantis Claw icon Pre-Mantis Claw; the platforming gate locks the Super Dash.

What Crystal Peak Is

Per the wiki, "Crystal Peak contains extensive tunnels throughout the mountain which were used to mine its crystals. The crystals are present across the entire area, with some tunnels having crystals lining the top and bottom of the cavern. Conveyor belts can be found in many rooms which transport the crystal shards."

According to the wiki, the central chamber holds a bench with the Crystal Guardian boss. The Enraged Guardian (his dream variant) is "located above this room, which can only be accessed once the Monarch Wings are obtained. A Mask Shard can be found after this boss fight."

The wiki specifies two named sub-areas: Hallownest’s Crown at the top of the peak (holds a Whispering Root and a Vessel Fragment), and the Crystallised Mound (holds the Descending Dark spell, the downward-attack upgrade to Desolate Dive).

Access Routes

Crystal Peak icon Per the wiki, three routes lead into Crystal Peak. The Dirtmouth lift is the canonical first-visit entry; the Crossroads passage and Resting Grounds tram are mid-game alternates.

  1. Dirtmouth lift near Myla. According to the wiki, a stagway-style lift rises from Dirtmouth "near Myla" up into the lower Peak tunnels. This is the canonical first entry and the only path available pre-Mantis Claw.
  2. Forgotten Crossroads passage. Per the wiki, a hidden wall in the upper Crossroads opens into the Peak. The route is easy to miss on first visit; Cornifer’s Crossroads map flags it as an undiscovered corridor.
  3. Resting Grounds Hidden Station tram. The wiki notes the Hidden Station inside Resting Grounds connects to the Peak via the Tram Pass system. The route requires the Tram Pass from Deepnest Failed Tramway; it is the fastest repeat-visit path for Hallownest’s Crown trips.
Build Tip

Carry Lumafly Lantern on Peak runs. Per the wiki, several upper tunnels (especially on the way to Hallownest’s Crown) are dark. The crystal hazards and falling Crystal Crawlers stack the damage fast; in practice, the Lantern saves 2-3 Masks per Crown attempt.

Crystal Heart Super Dash

Crystal Heart icon Per the wiki, the Crystal Heart ability is "found in an old mining golem at the end of a platforming segment in Crystal Peak. Requires Mantis Claw." It allows the Knight "to fly forward horizontally until colliding with a wall or enemy that is not killed by the dash."

According to the wiki, the input is "hold and release SUPER DASH." Holding the button charges while standing or wall-clinging; releasing at full charge launches the Knight forward. The dash continues "until interrupted by damage or the environment, by pressing JUMP or by tapping SUPER DASH again."

The wiki specifies "the Super Dash deals 10 damage on contact with an enemy, and any enemy killed by this hit does not damage the Knight or stop their movement." This is the rare ability that kills weak enemies clean and flies right through them, making cross-room kills part of the standard travel loop.

Crystal Guardian Fight

Crystal Guardian icon Per the wiki, the Crystal Guardian is "part of the miners of Crystal Peak who died from the Infection and were reanimated by it." He appears larger than other husks, with crystal growing on his back and encasing both his arms and his head.

According to the wiki, the Guardian fires light beams from his crystallised limbs. The Hunter’s Journal calls him "heavyset miner of the Crystal Peak overcome by crystal growth" who "can discharge blazing beams of light from its crystallised limbs." Stand on the side platforms between beam rotations for safe punish windows.

Enraged Guardian icon The wiki specifies the Enraged Guardian (his dream variant) lives "above this room, which can only be accessed once the Monarch Wings are obtained." Enraged Guardian uses the same moveset with tighter timing and longer beam sustains; the rematch fits in Pantheon of the Master rotations as the dream guardian beat.

According to the wiki, "while encased in crystal, the Guardian shrieks similarly to the Radiance although at a higher pitch. When cleared of the crystal, it has a normal bug voice." The Radiance audio cue is one of the subtler foreshadowing beats for the true ending reveal.

Myla and Infection Arc

Myla icon Per the wiki, Myla is a miner the Knight meets at the Dirtmouth lift entrance. On first meeting, she sings a cheerful song about mining; on every subsequent visit her dialogue darkens, her humming distorts, and the crystals around her grow larger.

According to the wiki, the arc ends with Myla fully Infected after the Knight gains the Crystal Heart. Returning to her mining spot post-Crystal Heart replaces her with a Husk Miner variant that attacks on sight. Killing her grants no special drop; the wiki frames it as a lore beat rather than a reward.

The wiki specifies her dialogue arc is the cleanest in-game demonstration of the Infection’s gradual takeover. Most other Infected NPCs flip from clean to fully turned between visits; Myla’s arc has 4-5 dialogue states with visible environmental changes between each.

Hidden Station

Per the wiki, the Hidden Station is the Resting Grounds-side tram terminus that links to Crystal Peak. The station is one of two Hidden Stations in the tram network (the other being the Deepnest Failed Tramway side).

According to the wiki, the station requires the Tram Pass from Deepnest. Players who route Crystal Peak first have to take the Dirtmouth lift every visit; players who pick up the Tram Pass first cut Crown travel time by roughly 60%.

The wiki notes the Hidden Station side of the Peak opens directly onto a corridor with a Hallownest Seal and a Geo Deposit. The route doubles as a Geo-farm corridor for repeat Husk Miner kills; roughly 250 Geo per minute in practice.

Hallownest’s Crown and Crystallised Mound

Per the wiki, Hallownest’s Crown is the named sub-area at the top of the Peak. The Crown holds one Whispering Root (45 Essence) and one Vessel Fragment at the highest platform; the route up requires Crystal Heart plus Monarch Wings for the final stretch.

According to the wiki, the Crystallised Mound is the second sub-area, north of the central Guardian arena. The Mound holds the Descending Dark spell (the upgrade to Desolate Dive); two Crystal Hunter mini-bosses guard the approach. The spell roughly doubles Desolate Dive damage and grants brief invincibility on cast.

The wiki specifies one of the Pale Ore deposits sits in the Crown sub-area, on a high platform reachable only with Crystal Heart. A second Pale Ore sits at the bottom of a deep Crystal-Crawler-filled shaft elsewhere in the Peak; both feed the Nailsmith Pure Nail upgrade chain.

Common Mistakes

  1. Routing the Peak pre-Mantis Claw. Per the wiki, Crystal Heart requires Mantis Claw to reach the mining golem at the end of the platforming gauntlet. Players who explore the Peak first burn travel time and have to come back post-Claw anyway.
  2. Skipping the Hidden Station shortcut. According to the wiki, the Resting Grounds tram cuts Crown travel time by 60%. Players who skip the Tram Pass pickup take the Dirtmouth lift every visit, which stacks across 3-4 return trips for Pale Ore and Whispering Root farming.
  3. Killing Myla too early. The wiki specifies every visit between first meet and full Infection adds a new dialogue state. Players who clear the Crown route in a single sitting compress her arc down to two states and miss the darker middle transitions.
  4. Falling onto Crystal Spike tunnels. Per the wiki, several Peak rooms have ceiling and floor crystal spikes that one-shot the Knight on contact. The platforming gauntlet to Crystal Heart is the highest-density spike zone in the game outside Path of Pain.
  5. Forgetting the Enraged Guardian rematch. According to the wiki, the dream variant lives above the standard Guardian arena and requires Monarch Wings. Players who leave the Peak after the standard Crystal Guardian kill miss the dream fight, the Essence drop, and one of the Pantheon of the Master rotation beats.
