Sammy the Caterpillar is a rare enemy that spawns on Lake Foscari. Grinding random spawns would take hundreds of runs, so the correct approach is to head to the secret clearing where they spawn almost exclusively.

Load into Lake Foscari with any damage-oriented character. Area-of-effect weapons like Axe, Holy Water, or Garlic work best.
From the spawn point, travel northeast to find the hedge maze entrance.
Enter the maze and follow this path: go right, take the second upward path to the top, go left, then take the first downward path to exit.
You arrive at a hidden clearing where Sammy the Caterpillars spawn almost exclusively. Stay here and farm kills.
Grab any Curse items that spawn (Torrona's Box, Skull O'Maniac) to increase spawn rates even further.
Sammy the Caterpillars also drop health food, so you can sustain indefinitely. Most players hit 6,000 kills in one or two 30-minute runs.

What Vicious Hunger Does

Summons giant cat eyeballs with hexagrams that travel in straight lines from the edge of the screen, dealing 30 damage on contact. The critical feature is its gold transmutation: defeated enemies and pickups have a chance to turn into gold coins.

How Sammy Supercharges Gold Transmutation

  • Base gold chance: normally 0.5% to 1% (standard character)
  • Sammy's base: 16.5% (33x boost)
  • Per level: +0.5% gold chance
  • Maximum: 65% at level 98, multiplied by Luck

This means every enemy killed with Vicious Hunger at high Sammy levels is essentially guaranteed to drop gold, which in turn levels Sammy up faster, which increases the gold chance further. Classic exponential runaway.

Union: Power Of Lire
