Trevor Belmont is the Castlevania III protagonist and a gateway unlock in the Ode to Castlevania DLC. This guide covers the Giant Medusa Head unlock path via Leon, the Dragon Water Whip's 8-direction rotation mechanic, the Hydrostormer Tip Hydro Storm evolution, and Trevor's cascade unlocks for Grant Danasty and Alucard.

Trevor Belmont is exclusive to the Ode to Castlevania DLC. You must unlock Leon Belmont first (first coffin on Ode to Castlevania).
Leon's Alchemy Whip gains +2 damage per boss killed. If you already unlocked the Vampire Killer evolution, the Giant Medusa Head fight is trivial by minute 10. Use this run to start farming Belmont unlocks.
Cast wallchickenenjoyer in the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane (Secrets menu) to unlock Trevor instantly. The spell name references the iconic Wall Chicken food drop from the Castlevania series where characters find roast chickens inside candles and walls. Trevor can find Wall Chickens as a special DLC pickup in Ode to Castlevania.
Trevor gains +1 Amount at levels 10, 20, and 30, for a maximum bonus of +3 Amount. This caps at level 30 (no further Amount gained from leveling). On the Dragon Water Whip, this scales the whip to fire in up to 8 directions at once, saturating the screen with damage.
Amount scaling also benefits every other weapon Trevor picks up. Build toward weapons that reward high Amount (Knife, King Bible, Axe) for maximum synergy.

Trevor starts with the Beginning (X) arcana already equipped. This is the same arcana as its name-song from Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Trevor's home game. Beginning boosts character level-up speed significantly early in the run, which stacks with Trevor's Amount-per-10-levels scaling to reach the +3 cap faster.
Like Leon and Richter, Trevor can find special Ode to Castlevania pickups from light sources (candles, torches) on the Ode to Castlevania stage. These include:
The Dragon Water Whip is Trevor's starting weapon and one of the most unique whips in the DLC. Unlike Leon's Alchemy Whip triple-strike or Richter's Platinum Whip cardinal projectiles, the Dragon Water Whip uses a rotation-based multi-strike pattern.
The Dragon Water Whip strikes in the direction the character is facing. With increased Amount:
Trevor's +1 Amount per 10 levels scaling is custom-built for the Dragon Water Whip. Every 10 levels you gain another directional whip strike, filling in the rotation pattern until you reach full 8-direction coverage.
On every 7th whip activation, the Dragon Water Whip fires a snaking dragon projectile with unique properties:
Surviving 10 minutes as Trevor unlocks the Dragon Water Whip for the regular weapon pool, making it available for other characters through level-up drops.
If you have unlocked the Morning Star, Trevor can swap the Dragon Water Whip for Morning Star via skin selection. This lets you pick any magic whip variant at run start for strategic flexibility.
The Hydrostormer Tip keeps all Dragon Water Whip mechanics (rotation strikes, snaking dragon every 7th activation) and adds the iconic Hydro Storm screen-filling holy rain every 13th activation.
Use the Mad Groove (VIII) arcana to pull all stage pickups directly to you. On stages with Attractorb as a stage item (Dairy Plant, Moongolow, Boss Rash, Mt. Moonspell, Abyss of Foscari, and Ode to Castlevania), you can snag Attractorb in the opening minutes without hunting for it.
The Hydrostormer Tip's signature effect is the hidden Hydro Storm:
The weapon name has a funny inconsistency: the in-game Collection menu lists it as Dragon Water Whip, but the unlock requirement for Grant Danasty refers to it as Water Dragon Whip. Same weapon, inconsistent localization.
Trevor is one of the most important unlock gateways in the entire Ode to Castlevania DLC. Playing him unlocks the rest of the Castlevania III party plus the iconic Alucard.
| Character | Unlock Condition | Home Game |
|---|---|---|
| Grant Danasty | Evolve the Dragon Water Whip into Hydrostormer Tip | Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse |
| Alucard | Defeat the Doppelganger boss as Trevor Belmont | Castlevania III + Symphony of the Night |
| Sypha Belnades | Defeat Slogra and Gaibon as Grant Danasty (requires Grant first) | Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse |
| Christopher Belmont | Evolve the Alucart Sworb (requires Alucard) | Castlevania: The Adventure |
Leon unlocks Trevor. Trevor unlocks Grant and Alucard. Grant unlocks Sypha. Alucard unlocks Christopher Belmont. This means Trevor is two nodes away from the rest of Castlevania III (Sypha) and one step from the SotN protagonist (Alucard). If you want to speed-run Ode to Castlevania unlocks, Trevor is the bottleneck character.
| Stage | Rating | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ode to Castlevania | S-tier | Mandatory stage for Doppelganger (Alucard unlock) and special Wall Chicken pickups. Attractorb also spawns here for Hydrostormer Tip evolution. |
| Dairy Plant | A-tier | Every chest can evolve a weapon, making the Hydrostormer Tip evolution fast. Attractorb available as stage item. |
| Boss Rash | A-tier | Constant boss spawns means constant activation triggers for both the snaking dragon (7th) and Hydro Storm (13th). |
| Moongolow | B-tier | Attractorb spawns here. Good secondary option if you are stuck on Attractorb evolution. |
| The Bone Zone | C-tier | Enemy scaling punishes slower evolutions. Skip unless you have a full Trevor build already optimized. |
| Arcana | Priority | Why It Works |
|---|---|---|
Beginning (X) | Free | Already equipped by default on Trevor. Accelerates level-up rate, helping Trevor reach level 30 (max Amount) faster. |
Slash (XVI) | Must have | Dragon Water Whip and Hydrostormer Tip gain 4x crit damage at 10% base chance. Pairs with Luck for massive burst damage. |
Mad Groove (VIII) | High | Pulls the Attractorb stage item directly to you. Fastest path to Hydrostormer Tip evolution. |
Sapphire Mist (I) | Medium | Extra activation chance on top of the 7th/13th timing. More snaking dragons and Hydro Storms per minute. |
| Item | Priority | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
Attractorb | Must have | Required for Hydrostormer Tip evolution. Also pulls pickups toward you, useful for XP farming on Ode to Castlevania. |
Duplicator | High | Increases Amount, stacking with Trevor's per-10-level Amount gains. Pushes Dragon Water Whip toward full 8-direction coverage earlier. |
Candelabrador | High | Boosts Area. The snaking dragon projectile scales with Area, not Amount, so Candelabrador is your only way to make dragons bigger. |
Empty Tome | High | Reduces cooldown. More frequent whip swings means more frequent 7th/13th activation triggers. |
Clover (Luck) | Medium | Scales Slash crit chance. Also boosts special pickup drop rate on Ode to Castlevania stage. |
Trevor's most important output is Alucard. Every run should aim at the Doppelganger fight unless you are specifically farming Grant Danasty via weapon evolution. The Alucard unlock opens the path to Christopher Belmont and the deep late-DLC roster.
Trevor Belmont is a playable character from the Ode to Castlevania DLC. In Castlevania canon, he is the protagonist of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (1989) and the ancestor of Simon, Juste, and Richter Belmont. His Vampire Survivors kit focuses on the Dragon Water Whip, +20% Move Speed, and a unique +1 Amount scaling every 10 levels. He starts with the Beginning (X) arcana, named after a song from his home game.
Defeat the Giant Medusa Head boss in Ode to Castlevania while playing as Leon Belmont. Giant Medusa Head is the second boss inside the castle, at the end of the front door corridor (after the Giant Bat). Alternatively, cast the spell wallchickenenjoyer in the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane. The spell name references the iconic Wall Chicken food drop from the Castlevania series.
Giant Medusa Head is inside Dracula's Castle on the Ode to Castlevania stage. Head east from the Leon coffin area across the drawbridge and into the castle. The Giant Bat is the first boss past the entrance. Continue along the front door corridor past the Giant Bat and Giant Medusa Head spawns as the next boss. She is slow-moving but hits hard, so bring an evolved weapon.
Three passive abilities combine to make Trevor a scaling powerhouse: +1 Amount every 10 levels up to level 30 (max +3 Amount), starting with the Beginning (X) arcana for free, and the ability to find special Castlevania pickups from light sources (Wall Chicken for HP restore, other DLC-exclusive items). His +20% Move Speed also helps him reach bosses for farming.
The Dragon Water Whip is Trevor's starting weapon. It strikes forward in the direction the character is facing and, with increased Amount, spawns additional whips in a counterclockwise or clockwise rotation (up to 8 directions at max Amount). This is distinct from the Alchemy Whip's triple-strike pattern. Every 7th activation fires a snaking dragon projectile that pierces all enemies AND walls.
Every 7th swing, the Dragon Water Whip releases a snaking dragon projectile that damages everything in its path and ignores walls entirely. This is one of the few ways to hit enemies behind walls on Ode to Castlevania and other stage-heavy maps. The dragon is affected by Area scaling but NOT Amount, so stack Candelabrador for bigger dragon snakes.
Level the Dragon Water Whip to level 8 (maximum), then pick up the Attractorb passive item. Attractorb doesn't need to be leveled up. Open any treasure chest while both conditions are met to trigger the evolution into Hydrostormer Tip. You can pull Attractorb instantly with Mad Groove (VIII) arcana on stages that have it (Dairy Plant, Moongolow, Boss Rash, Ode to Castlevania, etc.).
Hydrostormer Tip keeps all Dragon Water Whip mechanics and adds a hidden Hydro Storm that triggers on every 13th activation. The Hydro Storm is a screen-filling sparkle of holy rain that damages all enemies on screen. Its damage scales with Speed and Duration (not Amount). This is a direct reference to the Hydro Storm item crash from Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Dracula X, which Richter activates with the Holy Water subweapon.
Trevor is a major gateway unlock. Evolving the Dragon Water Whip into Hydrostormer Tip unlocks Grant Danasty (another Castlevania III character with the Curved Knife). Defeating the Doppelganger boss as Trevor unlocks Alucard, the iconic Symphony of the Night protagonist. Grant is also required to unlock Sypha Belnades (the third member of Trevor's Castlevania III party). Trevor essentially unlocks the entire Castlevania III party plus Alucard.
The optimal Trevor build targets Hydrostormer Tip evolution by minute 10 to start Hydro Storm procs early, then stacks Amount for 8-direction whip coverage plus more snaking dragon projectiles. Pick up Candelabrador and Duplicator for Area and Amount scaling, and take Slash (XVI) for 4x crit multiplier. The starting Beginning (X) arcana adds XP and level acceleration.
