Juste Belmont is the Harmony of Dissonance protagonist imported into Vampire Survivors' Ode to Castlevania DLC as a hybrid whip-and-spell character. This guide covers the Wind Whip evolution unlock chain, the Belnades' Spellbook passive that guarantees a spell choice every level until level 7, the every-6-levels auto-level mechanic for equipped spells, the Daybreaker Tip evolution that unlocks Maxim Kischine, the Juste + Shanoa Maria Renard co-unlock, and the La Robba furniture easter egg that references his home game.
You need Simon Belmont unlocked first, because Juste is unlocked by evolving Simon's starting weapon (Wind Whip). If you don't have Simon yet, unlock him by evolving Christopher Belmont's Jet Black Whip.
Juste sits in the middle of a three-step Belmont unlock cascade:
| Step | Unlock Target | Method |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Simon Belmont | Evolve Jet Black Whip (Christopher's weapon) with Stone Mask |
| 2 | Juste Belmont | Evolve Wind Whip (Simon's weapon) with Crown |
| 3 | Maxim Kischine | Evolve Vibhuti Whip (Juste's weapon) with Candelabrador AFTER completing Ode to Castlevania main quest |
Juste is also the easier half of the Maria Renard unlock. Once you have both Juste and Shanoa, complete any stage with both of them present (either in Co-op or by using the hidden pair mechanic) to unlock Maria. Maria then becomes a prerequisite for Richter Belmont's unlock (evolve Guardian's Targe with Pummarola).
Cast fatefulfusion in the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane (Secrets menu) to unlock Juste Belmont instantly. The spell is a direct reference to Juste's home game, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, where he could combine Sub-Weapons with Spell Books through a fusion system to gain special attacks.
Juste Belmont is the protagonist of Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (Game Boy Advance, 2002). Every aspect of his Vampire Survivors design references his original game.
Juste is the descendant of both the Belmont clan AND the Belnades clan. His grandfather was Simon Belmont (vampire-hunting whip master), and his grandmother was Sypha Belnades (spellcaster). This dual bloodline explains why Juste mechanically combines:
No other Belmont in the Ode to Castlevania DLC has this dual-bloodline mechanical identity. Even Sonia Belmont (another notable whip-spell hybrid) doesn't have Juste's direct Spellbook passive.
| Element | Castlevania Reference |
|---|---|
| Starting weapon | Vibhuti Whip references the Vibhuti item in Symphony of the Night that spread ashes to damage enemies |
| Unlock spell | fatefulfusion references the Sub-Weapon + Spell Book fusion mechanic in Harmony of Dissonance |
| Spellbook passive | Mechanical echo of Harmony of Dissonance's Spell Books system |
| La Robba furniture | Spawns Harmony of Dissonance furniture collectibles instead of regular items |
| Daybreaker Tip evolution | References Harmony of Dissonance imagery of dawn/sunrise breaking darkness |
| Reroll/Skip/Banish +5 | Reflects Juste's scholarly, calculating approach to combat in HoD |
When Juste uses the La Robba weapon (evolved Santa Water + Attractorb), the spawned collectibles are NOT the standard Vampire Survivors furniture. Instead, Juste spawns furniture from Harmony of Dissonance - the decoratable room items from Dracula's Castle in his home game. This is a pure visual easter egg with no mechanical impact, but it's one of the most character-specific details in the entire DLC.
Juste's signature passive mechanics revolve entirely around the Belnades' Spellbook, a weapon that lets you choose from a list of Ode to Castlevania spells. He has two separate Spellbook passives.
Until Juste reaches level 7, he will receive the Belnades' Spellbook as his 4th level-up choice every single level. Key rules:
This is the strongest spell-acquisition passive in the game. No other character gets a guaranteed spell offering every level.
Every 6 levels (6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, etc.), Juste automatically levels up any equipped spell from the Belnades' Spellbook. Key rules:
Gemini (I) creates a counterpart duplicate of each weapon that acts independently. On Juste, Gemini duplicates all 5-6 Belnades spells you pick up, effectively doubling Juste's spell output. Combined with the auto-level passive, a Gemini-Juste build ends the run with 10+ effective spells firing simultaneously. This is the signature Juste playstyle and why Gemini is his must-pick arcana.
Juste's starting weapon is the Vibhuti Whip, a magic whip that behaves differently from standard Belmont whips.
Vibhuti Whip + Candelabrador = Daybreaker Tip (requires evolution chest after minute 10). Importantly, evolving Vibhuti Whip into Daybreaker Tip after completing the Ode to Castlevania main quest also unlocks Maxim Kischine as a playable character.
Like other Belmonts, Juste can choose Morning Star as his starting weapon instead of Vibhuti Whip, IF Morning Star is already unlocked. Morning Star is a classical whip with straightforward damage output. Pick Vibhuti Whip for the Daybreaker Tip evolution path and Maxim unlock; pick Morning Star for a more reliable direct-damage Belmont build.
| Stage | Rating | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ode to Castlevania | S-tier | Juste's home stage with Belnades Spellbook relic availability. All spells drop here naturally. Required for Daybreaker Tip + Maxim unlock evolution. |
| Dairy Plant | S-tier | Every chest evolves a weapon, letting Juste evolve multiple spells in sequence. Pairs with his auto-level spells. |
| Cappella Magna | A-tier | Lots of gem density accelerates Juste's level climb, hitting the 6/12/18/24 auto-level checkpoints faster. |
| Il Molise | A-tier | Multiple evolution chests per run for Belnades spell evolutions. |
| Inlaid Library | B-tier | Stone Mask stage item. Good for Morning Star Juste builds. |
| Arcana | Priority | Why It Works |
|---|---|---|
Gemini (I) | Must have | Duplicates every Belnades spell Juste picks up. Combined with his Spellbook passive, Gemini creates 10+ effective spells firing simultaneously. THE signature Juste arcana. |
Slash (XVI) | High | Unlocks critical hit capability on Vibhuti Whip and all Belnades spells. Pair with Clover Luck stacking for consistent crits. |
Wicked Season (XIII) | High | Growth boost accelerates leveling toward the 6/12/18/24 auto-level checkpoints. Gets more value out of Juste's passive 2. |
Blood Astronomia (XXI) | Medium | Damage scaling based on HP healed. Works well with Juste's balanced stats and spell diversity. |
| Item | Priority | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
Candelabrador | Must have | Required for Vibhuti Whip → Daybreaker Tip evolution. Also boosts Area for Juste's spell coverage. |
Empty Tome | High | Cooldown reduction. Belnades spells are cooldown-heavy so Empty Tome increases their effective fire rate significantly. |
Spinach | High | Might multiplier. Stacks with Juste's +20% Might base for 40%+ damage boost across all spells. |
Duplicator | High | +1 Amount per level. Doubles or triples the number of projectiles on many Belnades spells. |
Crown | High | Growth boost helps hit auto-level checkpoints faster. Also required for Wind Whip evolution prerequisite. |
Clover | Medium | Luck scaling. Stacks with Slash XVI for consistent critical hits on Vibhuti Whip. |
Juste has the highest built-in Reroll + Skip + Banish total in the game (+5/+5/+5 = +15 total). Combined with his guaranteed Spellbook passive until level 7 and every-6-levels auto-level, Juste has more level-up control than almost any other character. This makes him surprisingly viable for experimental builds and rare-weapon hunting runs. Banish weapons you don't want, Reroll to force specific choices, and Skip to save for later.
Juste Belmont is a playable character in the Ode to Castlevania DLC, added in the October 2024 update. He is a direct import from Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance (2002) where he was the protagonist. Canonically, Juste is a descendant of both the Belmont clan AND the Belnades clan, which explains his unique mix of whip mastery (Belmont trait) and spell affinity (Belnades trait). His starting weapon is the Vibhuti Whip, and he can also start with Morning Star if unlocked.
Unlock Juste by evolving the Wind Whip, which is Simon Belmont's starting weapon. To do this, you need to already have Simon Belmont unlocked. Max Wind Whip and Crown, then open an evolution chest. The Wind Whip evolves into Spirit Tornado Tip, and this evolution unlocks Juste as a playable character. Once unlocked, Juste costs 2,200 gold (scales with characters owned). Alternatively, cast fatefulfusion in the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane.
The Ode to Castlevania DLC features a chain of Belmont unlocks where each character unlocks the next:
The spell references the signature fusion mechanic from Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, Juste's original game. In Harmony of Dissonance, Juste could combine Sub-Weapons (like Holy Water, Axe, Cross) with Spell Books to gain powerful special attacks. This fusion system was unique to his game and defined his playstyle. The Vampire Survivors spell captures this lore: Juste's Belnades' Spellbook passive in VS is a direct mechanical echo of the HoD fusion system.
Juste has two interconnected Spellbook passives:
Vibhuti Whip is Juste's starting weapon. The name comes from a Castlevania: Symphony of the Night item that spread ashes on the ground to damage enemies walking through them. Mechanically in Vampire Survivors, the Vibhuti Whip lingers on the ground for a few moments before attacking with a mighty slash, leaving behind dust clouds that damage enemies similar to Hand Grenade explosions. It can deal critical damage if you pick the Slash (XVI) arcana. Evolves with Candelabrador into Daybreaker Tip.
Level Vibhuti Whip to max, level Candelabrador to max, then open an evolution chest (after minute 10 on most stages, or any chest in Dairy Plant / Il Molise / Cappella Magna). The weapon evolves into Daybreaker Tip. Critically, if you evolve Vibhuti Whip into Daybreaker Tip after completing the Ode to Castlevania main quest, you also unlock Maxim Kischine as a playable character. This is the Juste → Maxim portion of the Belmont cascade.
Gemini (I) is the top arcana for Juste. Because Juste is guaranteed to receive the Belnades' Spellbook as a level-up choice until level 7, and because every 6 levels auto-levels his spells, Juste ends most runs with 4-5 equipped Belnades spells. Gemini duplicates each weapon into a counterpart version, effectively doubling Juste's total spell output. No other character stacks spells as reliably as Juste, which makes Gemini uniquely strong on him.
Yes. Complete any stage with both Juste Belmont AND Shanoa present to unlock Maria Renard as a playable character. This requires Shanoa to already be unlocked (evolve Iron Ball + Alucard Spear). The dual-character requirement references the story connections between Harmony of Dissonance-era Juste and Order of Ecclesia-era Shanoa as two different types of vampire hunters. Maria starts with Guardian's Targe, which also unlocks Richter Belmont when evolved.
When Juste uses La Robba (the evolved Santa Water + Attractorb weapon that spawns collectible furniture), he does not spawn the regular Vampire Survivors furniture. Instead, Juste spawns furniture collectibles from Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, referencing the decoratable special room in Dracula's Castle from his home game. This is a pure lore easter egg with no mechanical impact. Other characters get the standard La Robba items.
