Stag stations are the fast travel network of Hallownest, ridden by the Last Stag once you pay each toll.
Stag stations are the fast travel system in Hollow Knight. Per the wiki, each
station is a platform where you ring a bell to summon the Last Stag, who then carries you between any stations you have opened.
According to the wiki, there are eleven stag stations across Hallownest. Most charge a one-time Geo toll to open, after which travel between them is free for the rest of the run.
This guide lists every station, the Geo cost to open each one, where to find it, and the two hidden stations that cost nothing but hide a
reward. In practice, opening the network early saves a huge amount of backtracking.
11 stag stations form the fast travel map of Hallownest.
The Last Stag answers the bell and carries you between opened stations.
A Geo toll opens most stations, from 50 up to 300, then travel is free.
Stag Nest unlocks after every other station and holds a Vessel Fragment.Per the wiki, a stag station holds a large bell. Striking it with your
Nail summons the Last Stag, who arrives and offers a ride to any other station you have already opened.
According to the wiki, opening a station costs a one-time Geo toll paid at that station. The first station you reach, in
Dirtmouth, is free and acts as the hub the Last Stag calls home once you free him.
The wiki notes that travel between any two opened stations is free and instant after the toll is paid. You can also buy a Stag map pin from
Iselda to mark every station you have found on your map.
Open a station the moment you find it, even if you are low on Geo. The toll is one-time, and an open station becomes a free exit the next time the route gets dangerous.
Per the wiki, the network spans eleven stations. The table lists each one with its location and the Geo toll to open it. Two stations cost nothing and a third opens by lever instead of payment.
| Station | Where to find it | Geo to open |
|---|---|---|
Dirtmouth | Surface village above Hallownest | Free |
Forgotten Crossroads | Below Dirtmouth, the first underground hub | 50 |
Greenpath | Eastern edge of the mossy Greenpath | 140 |
Queen's Station | Eastern Fungal Wastes | 120 |
Queen's Gardens | Deep in the Queen's Gardens | 200 |
City Storerooms | Upper City of Tears | 200 |
King's Station | Lower City of Tears, near the Tram | 300 |
Distant Village | Within Deepnest | 250 |
Resting Grounds | Opened by a lever, not a toll | Free |
Hidden Station | Ancient Basin, opened from the inside | Free |
Stag Nest | Howling Cliffs, the Last Stag's true home | Free |
According to the wiki, the paid tolls add up to 1,260 Geo if you open every chargeable station. In real runs, the
Forgotten Crossroads station is the one worth opening first, since it sits one screen below town and links straight back to the hub.
The wiki notes that the
Queen's Station and the
Greenpath station open the western half of the map, while the
City of Tears stations and
Queen's Gardens cover the east and south.
Per the wiki, two stations never charge a toll but are easy to walk past. Both reward exploration rather than Geo.
According to the wiki, the Hidden Station sits in the
Ancient Basin and is opened from the inside. You reach it on foot first, break it open, and only then can the Last Stag carry you there. It becomes available once any other station is unlocked.
The wiki specifies that Stag Nest, in the
Howling Cliffs, only appears as a destination after every other station has been opened. Its bell is broken, so the Last Stag cannot be summoned there, but the nest holds a
Vessel Fragment and a quiet bit of the stag's backstory.
Reaching Stag Nest also clears the Hope achievement. Open all other stations first, then ride toward the new Stag Nest dot to collect the Vessel Fragment in one trip.
Per the wiki, the Last Stag is the final survivor of the stag beasts who once served as living transport across Hallownest. You wake him at the
Dirtmouth station, and from then on he answers every bell you ring.
According to the wiki, the stag remembers each station you open and grows more talkative as the network reconnects. He recalls the old days when the
King's Station bustled with travelers, long before the Infection emptied the kingdom.
The wiki notes that guiding him back to Stag Nest is the emotional payoff of his story. In actual play, the short ride to that broken final station lands harder once you have heard him reminisce at every stop.
Per the wiki, stations unlock as you naturally pass through each region, so the cheapest network follows the normal route of the game.
Forgotten Crossroads and open its 50 Geo station for an instant trip home.
Tram, cover the busy middle of the map.According to the wiki, a Geo toll is never refunded, but it is also never charged twice. If Geo is tight, the
early stations pay for themselves in saved walking faster than the late ones.
The stag network ties into the maps you fill in, the Geo you bank, and the benches you rest at. These spokes pick up the connected threads.
