The primal source of all Silk and the slumbering true monarch of Pharloom, fought atop the Cradle.
Grand Mother Silk is the Act 2 final boss, and her fight is six phases and 1,224 HP of bladework before the game asks you which ending you want.
She is the primal source of Silk itself. Per the wiki, she came to Pharloom long ago, spun small arachnids into the Weavers, and ruled as the land's true monarch until those same Weavers lulled her to sleep.
The reason she is haunting Pharloom is that she is trying to wake up. Hornet, as a Silk-producing Weaver descendant, is exactly the kind of bug she wants to bind into her single, eternal mind.
This guide covers her lore, the full six-phase fight, the three endings the encounter unlocks, and the gear that makes the climb manageable.
The primal source of Silk and Pharloom's true monarch.
The Cradle, the Act 2 final-boss arena.
Six phases, 1,224 HP after Lace's second fight.
Weaver Queen, Snared Silk, or Twisted Child.Grand Mother Silk is a pale higher being, the source every thread in the game traces back to. According to the wiki, she evolved the tiny Pharlids into the Weavers with her silk and set herself up as the true ruler of Pharloom.
The Weavers eventually put her to sleep and hid her, ruling in her place. Desperate to wake, she began snaring the bugs of Pharloom and driving them mad, aiming to bind every soul and shell into one mind devoted to her forever.
She spun two children from her own threads: a loyal one,
Lace, and a discarded one, Phantom. Hornet draws her attention precisely because she carries Weaver blood and produces Silk of her own.
Grand Mother Silk waits at the top of the Cradle, the peak you climb to at the end of Act 2. The wiki specifies she is fought after you defeat Lace in her second encounter, which acts as the gate into the arena.
Hornet's arrival in Pharloom is what speeds the Mother's awakening, so the confrontation happens while she is still half asleep. She is the capstone of
Silksong's Act 2 boss lineup, and the fight does not begin until you challenge her directly at the top.
What happens after you win depends entirely on what you brought with you, which is covered in the endings section below.
The fight is a marathon: 1,224 HP split across six phases of 100, 192, 240, 110, 242, and 340 HP. Most of her attacks deal 2 mask damage, so endurance and consistent dodging matter more than raw aggression.
| Phases | Attacks |
|---|---|
| 1 to 3 | Blade Flurry, Blade Walls, Blade Rain, Claw Swipe, Glide, and Silk Web |
| 4 to 6 | All of the above plus Debris Rain and Spike Pull |
The damage is not flat. The wiki notes Silk Web hits for 3 mask damage, the hardest single hit in the fight, while Spike Pull only deals 1. Prioritize dodging the Silk Web above everything else.
Her stagger needs 19 hits. That is a long stagger bar, so look to land it during the lower-HP phases (4 and 6 especially) where a stagger buys a clean healing or burst window.
Treat this as a stamina fight and bring sustain. Because the fight runs six phases deep, the runs that fail usually fail late, so save your healing for the gaps after her big blade patterns rather than topping off constantly.
A high-damage
crest shortens the marathon, since fewer total hits means fewer phases spent dodging. In actual play, the Reaper or evolved Hunter setups clear her phases noticeably faster than a defensive build.
Learn the Silk Web tell first. At 3 mask damage it is the attack most likely to end a run outright, and the Debris Rain and Spike Pull additions in the back half punish players who get greedy chasing damage between her patterns.
Beating Grand Mother Silk leads to one of three endings, decided by what Hornet is carrying when the fight ends. Each grants its own 15G achievement, and the full picture lives in our
Silksong endings guide.
| Ending | How it triggers |
|---|---|
| Weaver Queen | Beat her without the Soul Snare; Hornet binds her power and becomes a Weaver Queen |
| Snared Silk | Build the Soul Snare with the Caretaker first; the Needolin binds the Mother to the Void |
| Twisted Child | Arrive cursed by the Twisted Bud; vines ensnare the Mother and Hornet turns to wood |
The Snared Silk route goes the furthest. There Lace cuts off her mother's arm to free Hornet, both fall toward the Abyss, and the Void later possesses Lace into the
Lost Lace fight before the Mother spends the last of herself giving Hornet the Silk to escape.
Grand Mother Silk is the hinge the whole story turns on. These guides cover the gear, cast, and routes that decide her fight.
