Evolutions win runsAlmost every top-tier weapon is rated on its evolved form, not its base. Prioritize getting 2-3 weapons to max level with their passive items in the first 10 minutes. The chest after the first elite boss at 10:00 triggers the first evolution.
Empty Tome is mandatoryReduces all weapon cooldowns by 8% per level. At max level it effectively gives you ~40% more attacks per second across every weapon simultaneously. Take it over almost every other passive item.
Surviving the 30:00 markDeath spawns at 30 minutes in every stage. You cannot kill it without specific tools. Run Infinite Corridor + Crimson Shroud together - the corridor halves Death's HP, the shroud caps your incoming damage to 10 per hit. This combination is the standard survival setup.
Key Rules
Area scales everythingThe Candelabrador passive item increases weapon area. It synergises with every AoE weapon - Garlic, Santa Water, King Bible, Death Spiral, Lightning Ring. If you're running three or more AoE weapons, Candelabrador is as important as Empty Tome.
Stage mattersInlaid Library has narrow corridors - Knife (Thousand Edge) and Runetracer become stronger here than on open maps. Mad Forest is open - favour AoE weapons and range. Check your stage before committing to a build.

FAQ

For overall strength, Magic Wand (Holy Wand) and Phieraggi are the most consistently top-rated across community lists. Holy Wand is the easiest to evolve and works on every character. Phieraggi has the highest damage ceiling but requires two guns and Tiragisu. Laurel is the best defensive weapon and is essential for any run attempting to reach 30 minutes.
Max out your weapon to level 8, carry the required passive item, then open a Treasure Chest dropped by an elite enemy after the 10-minute mark. The chest consumes the base weapon and the passive item is retained. Some evolutions need two passives at max level - Infinite Corridor (Silver Ring + Gold Ring) and Crimson Shroud (Metaglio Left + Right) are the main ones.
Empty Tome is the single best passive item in the game - cooldown reduction affects every weapon simultaneously. After that: Spinach (+10% damage, universal), Candelabrador (area, essential for AoE builds), Duplicator (extra projectile), and Attractorb (magnet range). Hollow Heart is mandatory if you're running Whip toward Bloody Tear.
Death spawns at 30:00 and cannot be killed by normal means. The standard solution is Infinite Corridor (Clock Lancet + Silver Ring + Gold Ring) which halves Death's HP periodically, combined with Crimson Shroud (Laurel + both Metaglio rings) which caps incoming damage at 10. Together they let you outlast Death's attack pattern.
Gorgeous Moon (evolved Pentagram) is excellent for XP farming because it clears the whole screen and collects all gems. In combat runs it hurts your damage - enemies killed by Gorgeous Moon don't trigger standard kill effects and it eliminates the gold they drop. Run it in dedicated grind sessions, seal it in combat attempts.
