Gemini (I) gives listed weapons a "counterpart" that fires alongside the original. Per the official wiki, counterparts cannot be evolved or united on their own. The mechanic doubles damage early, but counterparts stay locked at base form even when their parent weapon evolves, which means Gemini's value drops sharply at high Curse levels. Of 40 affected weapons, only 6 (Peachone, Ebony Wings, Vandalier, Phieraggi, Gatti Amari, Vicious Hunger) transfer Limit Break bonuses to their counterparts.

While Gemini (I) is active, listed weapons get functionally identical counterparts that fire alongside the original. Counterparts level up at the same time as the parent weapon, do not occupy weapon slots, do not show in the upper-left weapon list, and cannot be evolved or united on their own. They remain as independent weapons even if the parent weapon evolves.
Per the official Vampire Survivors Wiki, Gemini (I) is one of the original arcanas in the game (released 21 July 2022 with Patch 0.9.0, internal ID T01_AQUARIUS). The internal ID references the arcana's Castlevania music origin (the Aquarius theme from Sunken City of Poltergeists), while the public name "Gemini" reflects the doubling mechanic.
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| No weapon slot | Counterparts do not appear in the weapon list and do not consume one of the 6 weapon slots |
| Same level | Counterparts level up automatically when the parent weapon levels up |
| No evolution | Counterparts cannot be evolved or united on their own. They stay at the same level as the parent |
| Independent on evolve | When the parent evolves (e.g. Peachone + Ebony Wings into Vandalier), the counterparts do not unite. They remain separate |
| Limit Break (most weapons) | For most affected weapons, counterparts do NOT receive Limit Break bonuses. The original keeps scaling; the counterpart caps at base level |
| Limit Break (6 exceptions) | Peachone, Ebony Wings, Vandalier, Phieraggi, Gatti Amari, and Vicious Hunger transfer Limit Break bonuses to counterparts |
Per our arcanas hub, picking up Gemini (I) when the player already has an evolved weapon (Phieraggi, Vicious Hunger, Seraphic Cry, Ophion, Impostongue, or Time Warp) gives counterparts of the constituent weapons at MAX level. With Vandalier, both Peachone and Ebony Wings counterparts are given at the level of Vandalier and continue to level up with it. The asymmetry between Vandalier and the other 5 evolved weapons is a known quirk that experienced players exploit for damage scaling. Pair with our Empty Tome guide for cooldown reduction synergies.

Gemini affects 40 weapons across the base game and all DLCs. The most impactful are weapons that can transfer Limit Break (Peachone, Ebony Wings, Vandalier, Phieraggi, Gatti Amari, Vicious Hunger). The Speculo weapons from Ode to Castlevania (10 spellbook weapons) all get counterparts but do not transfer Limit Break.

Per the official wiki, all 10 spellbook weapons from the Ode to Castlevania DLC have Speculo counterparts when Gemini is active. None of them transfer Limit Break bonuses. Notably, weapon counterparts from Belnades' Spellbook gain the evolved weapon effects when the evolved spellbook is obtained, and skipping the base weapon (via starting weapon or Super Candybox II Turbo) gives only a copy of the evolved weapon.

Per the official wiki, Nduja Fritta Tanto and Sorbetto also receive Gemini counterparts. They create another stream of flame or frost from the back side of the character, doubling the front-back coverage of those food-themed weapons.
Only 6 weapons transfer Limit Break bonuses to their Gemini counterparts: Peachone, Ebony Wings, Vandalier, Phieraggi, Gatti Amari, Vicious Hunger. For all other affected weapons, Limit Break boosts ONLY the original; the counterpart stays capped at base level. This makes high-Curse Gemini builds significantly weaker than expected unless centered on the 6 transferring weapons.
VS
Direct answer: Vandalier wins for sustained damage; Phieraggi wins for burst on Curse-stacked builds.
""Vandalier scales BOTH counterparts (Cygnus and Zhar Ptytsia) with Limit Break, and the counterparts level up alongside Vandalier. The result is effectively 4 weapons firing from one slot. Phieraggi gives Red Muscle and Twice Upon a Time as max-level counterparts, but ONLY the Phieraggi itself transfers Limit Break, so the counterparts cap at base while the parent keeps scaling. For most builds, Vandalier's clean 4-weapon scaling outperforms Phieraggi's 1-Limit-Break-plus-2-fixed-counterparts setup at high Curse levels. Compare with our Curse stat guide for the compounding math.
Two competitive builds.
Rinaldo Gandolfi for Ode to Castlevania spellbook coverage (Gemini baked-in). Pugnala Provola for Vandalier-focused builds. Pair with Twilight Requiem (II) for projectile expiration explosions on counterparts (Cygnus does NOT benefit; Zhar Ptytsia does NOT benefit, but most counterparts do).
| Slot | Item |
|---|---|
| Character | Rinaldo Gandolfi (Gemini baked-in) |
| Stage | Cappella Magna or any Ode to Castlevania stage |
| Arcana 1 | Mad Groove (VIII) for spellbook collection |
| Arcana 2 | Sarabande of Healing (VI) for sustain |
| Arcana 3 | Heart of Fire (XIX) for fire spellbook AOE |
| Goal | Get all 6 spellbook slots; each gets a Speculo counterpart automatically |
| Slot | Item |
|---|---|
| Character | Pugnala Provola |
| Stage | Cappella Magna with arcanas enabled |
| Arcana 1 | Gemini (I) at run start |
| Arcana 2 | Beginning (X) for +1 Amount on Vandalier (counterparts also benefit) |
| Arcana 3 | Iron Blue Will (VII) for projectile bouncing on Vandalier counterparts |
| Weapons | Peachone + Ebony Wings (evolves into Vandalier; Cygnus and Zhar Ptytsia transfer Limit Break) |
Cygnus benefits from Jail of Crystal (XIV) freeze chance.
Zhar Ptytsia benefits from Heart of Fire (XIX) fire bonus. Stack one of those arcanas alongside Gemini for a hidden damage multiplier on the Vandalier counterparts.Gemini is not always the right pick. On builds focused on Holy Wand or Pentagram (neither affected by Gemini), the arcana slot is wasted. On characters with extremely strong starting weapons (Toastie with King Bible, Mortaccio with Bone), the build is already saturated and counterparts of unrelated weapons add little. Gemini also competes for the run-start arcana slot with universally-strong picks like Mad Groove (VIII) and Sarabande of Healing (VI), so the player should only commit to Gemini when the run plan centers on counterparts as the carry mechanic.
Per the official wiki, Hidden weapons from characters can also get their counterparts. Having multiple copies of certain weapons with Gemini will only provide 1 counterpart total, not one per copy. For example, Megalo Impostor Rina will only get 1 Silver Tongue counterpart even with Silver Tongue equipped explicitly. The interaction is consistent for all hidden-weapon-on-character cases.
Players new to Gemini run into these recurring problems:
Per the official wiki update history, Gemini (I) has remained largely unchanged since release, but Patch 0.10.0 (4 August 2022) expanded its weapon list to include Gatti Amari, its evolution Vicious Hunger, and Nduja Fritta Tanto. Subsequent DLC patches (Tides of the Foscari, Operation Guns, Emergency Meeting, Ode to Castlevania) added their respective spellbook and gun weapons to the counterpart list, bringing the total to 40 affected weapons. The arcana has not been nerfed despite community discussion about Limit Break asymmetry between Vandalier and other evolved weapons.
Gemini's internal name is T01_AQUARIUS, referencing the Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse track Aquarius (theme of Sunken City of Poltergeists). The public name uses the Gemini zodiac instead of Aquarius because Gemini means twins, which fits the counterpart-doubling mechanic. The spell ilbagatto means The Magician in Italian, referencing the tarot Major Arcana card I (The Magician).
Per the official Vampire Survivors Wiki, Gemini (I) gives listed weapons a counterpart that fires alongside the original. Counterparts level up at the same time as the parent weapon, do not occupy weapon slots, and cannot be evolved or united on their own. The arcana affects 40 weapons across the base game and all DLCs. Released 21 July 2022 with Patch 0.9.0.
Reach character level 50 with Pugnala Provola in any single run. Pugnala unlocks by collecting the Crimson Shroud relic. Spell shortcut: type ilbagatto in the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane Secrets menu. Per the official wiki's standard rule for spell shortcuts, ilbagatto does NOT trigger the corresponding achievement.
40 weapons total. Base game: Peachone, Ebony Wings, Phiera Der Tuphello, Eight The Sparrow, Gatti Amari, Vandalier, Phieraggi, Vicious Hunger, plus Nduja Fritta Tanto and Sorbetto. DLC: Santa Javelin / Seraphic Cry, Shadow Servant / Ophion, Party Pooper, Silver Tongue / Impostongue, Prism Damsel / Time Warp, Ammo Appalate / Gunastrophe, plus all 10 Speculo spellbook weapons from Ode to Castlevania.
No. Per the official wiki, counterparts cannot be evolved or united on their own. They remain as independent weapons even if the parent weapon evolves. Cygnus stays Cygnus forever, even when Peachone evolves into Vandalier alongside it.
Only 6: Peachone, Ebony Wings, Vandalier, Phieraggi, Gatti Amari, and Vicious Hunger. For all other affected weapons, Limit Break boosts ONLY the original; the counterpart stays capped at base level. This is critical for high-Curse builds because non-transferring counterparts fall off significantly past minute 20.
Yes. Rinaldo Gandolfi (Ode to Castlevania DLC) starts with Gemini (I) baked-in. The arcana persists even on stages with arcanas disabled, making Rinaldo the strongest character for spellbook-Gemini synergy. Per the wiki, Belnades' Spellbook counterparts gain evolved weapon effects when the evolved spellbook is obtained. The interaction is covered alongside other DLC mechanics in our bosses guide.
Cappella Magna for high-density boss farming. Inlaid Library for the dense corridor layout that compounds Vandalier and Phieraggi's projectile coverage. Ode to Castlevania stages for Rinaldo spellbook builds. Dairy Plant works well if combined with Mad Groove (VIII) to grab all the Yellow Sign passives that buff Gemini-affected weapons.
Likely a Limit Break transfer issue. Only 6 weapons transfer Limit Break bonuses to counterparts. If the build centers on Santa Javelin / Seraphic Cry, Time Warp, or Speculo spellbook weapons, the counterparts cap at base level while the originals keep scaling. Past minute 20, enemies escalate and the capped counterparts cannot keep up. Fix: pivot to Vandalier, Phieraggi, or Vicious Hunger for the carry weapon.
Gemini mechanics, all 40 affected weapons, Limit Break transfer exceptions, Pugnala Provola unlock chain, Castlevania III music reference, and tarot ilbagatto naming cross-referenced against the official Vampire Survivors Wiki on Weirdgloop and the Vampire Survivors Fandom Wiki, including Patch 0.9.0 release notes that introduced Gemini and Patch 0.10.0 notes that expanded its weapon list to include Gatti Amari and Nduja Fritta. In our experience, the wiki Gemini (I) page is the definitive single reference for the counterpart behavior matrix.
