Stone Mask is the canonical Greed passive item. It increases Greed by +10% per level for a maximum of +50% Greed at level 5. Stone Mask is required for the Vicious Hunger and Muramasa evolutions, and is the cornerstone of every gold farm build in Vampire Survivors.

Stone Mask is the canonical Greed passive item. It boosts Greed by +10% per level, capping at +50% Greed at level 5. Greed determines coin value from chests and breakable pickups, and per the official wiki, Stone Mask also boosts the Disco of Gold (XV) arcana healing output.
Stone Mask is a passive item in Vampire Survivors that exclusively boosts the Greed stat, and in our experience the foundation of every effective gold farm build. Per the official Vampire Survivors Wiki, Stone Mask was added in patch v0.5.0 and grants +10% Greed per level with a maximum of 5 levels (+50% Greed total). It is one of the few passives focused entirely on economy rather than combat output.
| Level | Greed Bonus |
|---|---|
| Level 1 | +10% Greed |
| Level 2 | +20% Greed |
| Level 3 | +30% Greed |
| Level 4 | +40% Greed |
| Level 5 (max) | +50% Greed |
Greed determines how many coins drop from treasure chests, breakable pickups, and floor candles. The base value starts at 100% Greed for new players. Stat panel PowerUps add up to +50% Greed permanently, and Stone Mask adds another +50% on top of that during the run. Combined with characters that boost Greed (Galo, Crewmate) and Stage Curse multipliers, total Greed can exceed 250% in optimized gold farm runs.
Per the official wiki, Stone Mask not only increases coin counts but also increases coin value. The two effects compound, which makes Stone Mask one of the highest-leverage gold farming items in the game.
Stone Mask unlocks by finding it as a stage item in the Inlaid Library. The Inlaid Library unlocks by reaching level 20 in Mad Forest (or surviving 30 minutes there). Stone Mask sits in an alcove on the east side of the Inlaid Library map, between bookshelves near the top of the screen.
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Pick any character on Mad Forest. Reach level 20 in a single run (or alternately survive 30 minutes). Either condition unlocks the Inlaid Library. |
| 2 | Start a new run on Inlaid Library. Head east from the starting position, staying near the top of the map. |
| 3 | Locate the Stone Mask in one of the alcoves between bookshelves. It sits on the floor in front of a small table with books on it, floating slightly for visibility. |
| 4 | Walk over Stone Mask to pick it up. The unlock triggers immediately. From this point forward, Stone Mask appears in level-up rolls and on Inlaid Library, Moongolow, Boss Rash, Mt.Moonspell, and Abyss Foscari stage spawns. |
Picking up the
Milky Way Map relic (south of starting area on Dairy Plant) makes finding Stone Mask much easier on future runs since the map displays all stage item locations. The relic is a one-time pickup that persists across all future runs.
Stone Mask is required for two evolutions. Gatti Amari + Stone Mask (any level) → Vicious Hunger (base game). Night Sword + Stone Mask (max level) → Muramasa (Legacy of the Moonspell DLC).
Vicious Hunger is the base game evolution.
Gatti Amari is the starting weapon of
Giovanna Grana, who unlocks by finding her coffin in the Inlaid Library and purchasing her for 1,000 coins. Vicious Hunger summons giant cat eyes from the screen edges that fly across in straight lines and damage everything in their path.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Base Weapon | Gatti Amari at level 8 (max) |
| Passive Item | Stone Mask (any level, including just level 1) |
| Trigger | Open a treasure chest after the 10-minute mark |
| Result | Gatti Amari removed; Vicious Hunger added in same slot |
Muramasa is the evolved Night Sword from the Legacy of the Moonspell DLC. Per the official wiki, this evolution requires Stone Mask at maximum level (level 5), unlike the Gatti Amari evolution which only needs any level. Muramasa is one of the more thematic Mt.Moonspell weapons given its samurai aesthetic.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Base Weapon | Night Sword at level 8 (max) |
| Passive Item | Stone Mask at level 5 (max) |
| DLC | Legacy of the Moonspell (paid) |
Stone Mask is the foundation of every gold farm build. Pair it with the Disco of Gold (XV) arcana, max Greed PowerUps, and the Crown passive on a high-Curse run. The combo can produce 100,000+ coins per Endless Mode run when stacked correctly.
| Component | Greed Contribution |
|---|---|
Stone Mask (max) | +50% Greed |
| Greed PowerUp (max) | +50% Greed |
| Galo (character) starting bonus | +50% Greed |
Disco of Gold (XV) arcana | 2x coin pickups; heals from gold |
| Stage Curse multipliers | Density compounds gold drops |
Per the official wiki, the Disco of Gold (XV) arcana doubles coin pickups and heals the player based on coin value collected. Stone Mask increases coin value, which means it directly increases the healing output of Disco of Gold. The combo creates a self-sustaining gold farm where collecting coins heals the player while accumulating the run's gold pile.
The canonical gold farm run goes as follows. First, pick a high-Greed character (Galo, Crewmate). Pick the Inlaid Library or Moongolow stage where Stone Mask spawns naturally. Pick up Stone Mask early and prioritize leveling it to 5. Use a Randomazzo build that targets Disco of Gold (XV) on the first arcana pull (similar to Curse-stacking arcana strategies). Stack Crown for XP scaling and Empty Tome for cooldown reduction. Run into Endless Mode after the 30-minute mark and farm at the highest cycle the build can sustain. The optimal Greed setup overlaps significantly with Banish 80 weapon achievement runs.
Giovanna Grana (Gatti Amari starter for Vicious Hunger), Galo (built-in Greed bonus), Crewmate (random Greed scaling), and any character pursuing the Muramasa evolution all benefit. Galo is the top dedicated gold farm character in the base game.
| Character | Why It Pairs |
|---|---|
Giovanna Grana | Starts with Gatti Amari; canonical Vicious Hunger carrier |
| Galo Espinha | +50% starting Greed; the dedicated gold farm character |
| Crewmate | Random Greed gains on weapon level-ups; potential extreme high rolls |
| Toastie | High Luck stat compounds with Stone Mask via Curse-driven enemy density |
| Christine Davain | Operation Guns DLC; Greed-friendly Treasure Chest scaling that pairs with final boss farming runs |
Once unlocked, Stone Mask appears as a stage pickup on Inlaid Library, Moongolow, Boss Rash, Mt.Moonspell, and Abyss Foscari. Abyss Foscari can spawn up to 4 Stone Masks in a single run, making it the fastest stage to max-level the passive.
| Stage | DLC Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Inlaid Library | Base game | Original unlock location; east side near top |
Moongolow | Base game | All standard passives spawn here |
| Boss Rash | Base game (Hyper Mode all stages) | Challenge stage; fastest passive collection |
Mt.Moonspell | Legacy of the Moonspell (paid) | Required stage for Muramasa evolution |
Abyss Foscari | Tides of the Foscari (paid) | Up to 4 Stone Masks per run; fastest max-level path |
Per the official wiki, Abyss Foscari is programmed to spawn the base Stone Mask plus up to 3 additional Stone Mask copies (each at 20% chance). On a high-Luck run, all 4 Stone Masks can spawn, allowing the passive to reach max level entirely from stage pickups without spending any level-up rolls. The wiki notes a known oversight where 4 Attractorbs are programmed to spawn in the slot, taking up one of the Stone Mask slots; only 3 extra Stone Masks reliably spawn.
Stone Mask is a two-tier reference. Castlevania has featured a Stone Mask as wearable equipment since Symphony of the Night. The original origin is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, where Stone Masks are tribal artifacts that turn humans into vampires. Series creator Koji Igarashi is a known JoJo fan, which explains the cross-pollination.
Per the official wiki, the Castlevania connection runs through series creator Koji Igarashi. Many Castlevania games since Symphony of the Night feature wearable Stone Masks as equipment. The deeper origin is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, where Stone Masks are ancient tribal artifacts that transform humans into vampires when worn. Dio Brando, the JoJo series antagonist, famously uses a Stone Mask to reject his humanity and become a vampire.
The Vampire Survivors Stone Mask carries forward both references. The vampire-creating tribal artifact origin fits the game's vampire-hunting premise, while the Castlevania equipment-style design connects to the broader Castlevania DLC content added in the Ode to Castlevania expansion (see Kappa farming for one of the iconic Castlevania-related farms).
Galo Espinha's built-in +50% Greed compounds with Stone Mask's +50% Greed (see our gold farm guide for full character rankings) for +100% from passive sources alone. Add max Greed PowerUp (+50%) and Disco of Gold (XV) for a baseline 250% Greed. Push higher with Curse stacking and Stage Curse multipliers.
| Slot | Item |
|---|---|
| Weapon 1 | Cherry Bomb (Galo starter; high coin scaling) |
| Weapon 2 | King Bible / Unholy Vespers |
| Weapon 3 | Garlic / Soul Eater |
| Weapon 4 | Laurel / Crimson Shroud |
| Weapon 5 | Lightning Ring / Thunder Loop |
| Weapon 6 | Cross / Heaven Sword |
| Passive 1 | Stone Mask (max) |
| Passive 2 | Hollow Heart |
| Passive 3 | Spinach |
| Passive 4 | Crown |
| Passive 5 | Empty Tome |
| Passive 6 | Spellbinder |
Giovanna's Gatti Amari pairs naturally with Stone Mask for the Vicious Hunger evolution. Take Stone Mask at level 1 (any level satisfies the Vicious Hunger evolution requirement). Use Inlaid Library where both Giovanna's coffin and Stone Mask spawn together, completing the unlock chain in a single run.
Greed is multiplicative on top of base coin drop. A 250% Greed run produces 2.5x the gold of a baseline 100% run. Stacking Stone Mask, Galo, Greed PowerUp, and Disco of Gold can push effective Greed to 300%+ in a single run.
| Greed Stack | Effective Greed | Coin Multiplier |
|---|---|---|
| Base only (no PowerUp) | 100% | 1x baseline |
| Greed PowerUp max | 150% | 1.5x |
| Greed PowerUp + Stone Mask max | 200% | 2x |
| + Galo character (+50%) | 250% | 2.5x |
| + Disco of Gold (XV) doubling | ~500% effective | 5x effective |
Per the official wiki, the Disco of Gold (XV) arcana converts collected coin value into healing on the player. Stone Mask increases coin value, which directly increases the per-coin heal amount. The interaction means Stone Mask functionally also acts as a Recovery passive when paired with Disco of Gold, making it a defensive item on these specific builds in addition to its economic role. The combo turns the entire stage into a moving heal source as the player walks over coin pickups.
Players new to Stone Mask often misuse it in these ways:
Stone Mask unlocks by finding it as a stage item in the Inlaid Library. The Inlaid Library itself unlocks by reaching level 20 in a single Mad Forest run (or surviving the full 30 minutes). Once on the Inlaid Library stage, head east from the starting position and stay near the top of the map. Stone Mask sits in an alcove between bookshelves, on the floor in front of a small table. Walk over it to pick it up and unlock the passive permanently.
Stone Mask is required for two evolutions. Gatti Amari + Stone Mask (any level) evolves into Vicious Hunger (base game). Night Sword + Stone Mask (max level) evolves into Muramasa (Legacy of the Moonspell DLC). The Gatti Amari evolution only needs Stone Mask at level 1; the Muramasa evolution requires Stone Mask at maximum level 5.
Stone Mask has 5 levels. Each level adds +10% Greed. At maximum level, Stone Mask provides +50% Greed. The passive is straightforward to max because it spawns on multiple stages and can be picked up from level-up rolls reliably.
On gold farm builds, absolutely. Stone Mask is the foundation of every serious gold farming strategy. On standard survival builds focused on completing a run for the first time, the slot is often better used on a defensive or offensive passive. The general rule is to take Stone Mask only after the build has a clear path to victory.
Once unlocked, Stone Mask spawns on Inlaid Library (east side, original location), Moongolow (general passive pool), Boss Rash, Mt.Moonspell, and Abyss Foscari. Abyss Foscari is the most efficient stage for stacking Stone Mask because it can spawn up to 4 copies in a single run, allowing the passive to reach max level entirely from stage pickups.
The canonical gold farm build pairs Stone Mask (max) with Galo Espinha (+50% starting Greed), Disco of Gold (XV) arcana, and max Greed PowerUp. The four sources combined push effective Greed past 250%. Add Crown for XP scaling and Empty Tome for cooldown reduction. Run on Inlaid Library or Moongolow where Stone Mask spawns naturally, then push into Endless Mode after the 30-minute mark.
Per the official wiki, Stone Mask is a two-tier reference. Many Castlevania games since Symphony of the Night feature a wearable Stone Mask as equipment. The deeper origin is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, where Stone Masks are ancient tribal artifacts that transform humans into vampires. Series creator Koji Igarashi is a known JoJo fan, which explains why the reference appears in both Castlevania and Vampire Survivors.
Indirectly, yes. Per the official wiki, Stone Mask increases coin value, and the Disco of Gold (XV) arcana heals the player based on coin value collected. The two effects compound, making Stone Mask one of the most efficient passives to pair with Disco of Gold. The combo creates a self-sustaining loop where collecting coins heals the player while building the gold pile for the run.
