Kingdom’s Edge is the eastern border of Hallownest, an ashen cliff region built around the Pale King’s shed Wyrm shell. Per the wiki, the Caterpillar NPC Bardoon spells it out: "This ashen place is grave of Wyrm. Once told, it came to die." The falling ash is "moult. The Wyrm’s corpse decaying."
According to the wiki, the region is the canonical setting for the Hornet Sentinel rematch. Hornet returns here as the Sentinel form (the harder of her two fights); she drops the King’s Brand, which the Knight needs to access the Abyss and open the Path of Pain / true ending route.
