Game system / Hollow Knight (Godmaster DLC)

The five boss rushes in Godhome. Master, Artist, Sage, and Knight each end on a Nailmaster or Vessel; Pantheon of Hallownest stacks all 42 bosses and closes on Absolute Radiance.

Pantheons: 5Final boss: Absolute RadianceDLC: Godmaster (free)

The Pantheons are the boss-rush trials added to Hollow Knight in the Godmaster DLC. Per the wiki, there are five of them inside Godhome, the dream-realm pocket accessed by Dream-Nailing the Godseeker after dragging her sleeping body from the Junk Pit to a bench in the Royal Waterways.

According to the wiki, each Pantheon stacks 10 to 11 bosses with no save between fights and a single final boss at the top of the tower. Clearing all four of the first Pantheons opens the fifth: Pantheon of Hallownest, a 42-boss gauntlet that ends on Absolute Radiance and unlocks the Embrace the Void true ending.

The wiki notes the system also introduces four Bindings: Nail, Shell, Charms, and Soul. Each Binding ratchets the difficulty by removing one tool from the Knight’s kit; clearing every Pantheon with every Binding opens the Land of Storms hidden arena and the Weathered Mask reward.

This guide covers all five Pantheons in order, the final boss of each, the Bindings system, the Godseeker unlock chain from the Junk Pit, the Hot Spring and Lifeblood checkpoints inside Pantheon of Hallownest, the Soul & Shade achievement at the end of Pantheon of the Knight, and the Embrace the Void cinematic that closes the Godmaster ending.

What the Pantheons Are

Per the wiki, the Pantheons are the centrepiece system of the free Godmaster DLC released in August 2018. The conceit is simple: the Godseeker is a devotee of "the Gods of Hallownest" (the bosses), and her dream-realm Godhome is a temple of statues that the Knight Dream Nails into to fight each god in sequence.

According to the wiki, each Pantheon is a single uninterrupted run. There is no checkpoint mid-Pantheon in the first four; Pantheon of Hallownest adds Hot Spring, Lifeblood, and Bench rooms after specific bosses, but the run resets to the start on death every time.

The wiki specifies that clearing each Pantheon unlocks an achievement: Embrace the Sage (Pantheon of the Master), Awakened Dream (Pantheon of the Artist), See No Evil (Pantheon of the Sage), Soul & Shade (Pantheon of the Knight), and the canonical Embrace the Void ending plus the Godseeker ending cinematic for Pantheon of Hallownest.

Godhome Unlock Route

Godseeker icon Per the wiki, Godhome is reached via the Godseeker NPC. Her sleeping body sits at the bottom of the Junk Pit in the Royal Waterways; the Knight Dream Nails her with the Awoken Dream Nail to open the portal to her dream temple.

  1. Upgrade to the Awoken Dream Nail. According to the wiki, the standard Dream Nail will not work on the Godseeker. The Seer in the Resting Grounds upgrades it after 1,800 Essence is collected from Whispering Roots and Dream Bosses.
  2. Reach the Junk Pit. Per the wiki, the Junk Pit sits at the eastern end of the Royal Waterways past a one-way drop. Tram Pass plus Isma’s Tear is the canonical pairing for safe traversal through the acid pool.
  3. Dream Nail the Godseeker. The wiki notes the Godseeker cocoon spawns at the bottom of the Junk Pit. The Awoken Dream Nail strike loads Godhome and starts the Pantheon system; every subsequent visit uses the Dream Gate or the Godhome bench to fast-travel back.

According to the wiki, Godhome itself is a single chamber with five statues. Each statue represents one Pantheon; inspecting a statue starts the corresponding boss rush.

Pantheon of the Master

Pantheon Master icon Per the wiki, the Pantheon of the Master is the entry point and covers 10 bosses ending on Brothers Oro and Mato. The bosses are mid-game tier (Vengefly King, Gruz Mother, False Knight, Massive Moss Charger, Hornet Protector, Gorb, Dung Defender, Soul Warrior, Brooding Mawlek, Oro and Mato).

According to the wiki, this Pantheon is the soft tutorial for the system. Bosses move at their canonical speed but the no-bench rule trains the Knight to manage Soul and Masks across long runs. Clean Vengeful Spirit and Quick Slash builds dominate the run.

The wiki specifies the Brothers Oro and Mato final fight is a paired boss: both attack simultaneously and chain Nail Art combos (Cyclone Slash, Dash Slash, Great Slash). Mark of Pride plus Sharp Shadow is the cleanest loadout; spell builds lose tempo on the dash phases.

Pantheon of the Artist

Pantheon Artist icon Per the wiki, the Pantheon of the Artist runs 11 bosses ending on Paintmaster Sheo. The new entries over Pantheon of the Master include Xero, Crystal Guardian, Soul Master, Oblobble, Mantis Lords, Marmu, Nosk, Flukemarm, and Broken Vessel.

According to the wiki, this Pantheon spikes on the Broken Vessel fight. Broken Vessel has 1,100 HP and the Infection-blob spawn pattern keeps Soul income tight; Quick Focus plus Shade Soul is the canonical clear.

The wiki notes Paintmaster Sheo as the final boss is a difficulty inversion from his Hut version in Greenpath. The Pantheon version uses three Nail Arts mid-fight (Great Slash, Cyclone Slash, Dash Slash) plus paint-aura summons. The Mark of Pride plus Quick Slash combo clears him in under 90 seconds.

Pantheon of the Sage

Pantheon Sage icon Per the wiki, the Pantheon of the Sage runs 11 bosses ending on Great Nailsage Sly. The new entries include Hive Knight, Elder Hu, the Collector, God Tamer, Troupe Master Grimm, Galien, Grey Prince Zote (level 3, only if defeated in Dirtmouth first), Uumuu, and Hornet Sentinel.

According to the wiki, the Sage Pantheon is the first real difficulty wall. Troupe Master Grimm and Great Nailsage Sly both have multi-phase fights with no recovery windows; the Pantheon stacks them within minutes of each other.

The wiki specifies Sly’s final boss form has two phases. Phase one mirrors his Nailsmith training dialogue; phase two breaks his shell and adds a multi-slash combo plus a Cyclone Slash that covers the full arena. Quick Focus + Quick Slash + Sharp Shadow is the standard clear loadout.

Pantheon of the Knight

Pure Vessel icon Per the wiki, the Pantheon of the Knight runs 12 bosses ending on Pure Vessel. The new entries include Enraged Guardian, Lost Kin, No Eyes, Traitor Lord, White Defender, Soul Tyrant, Markoth, Grey Prince Zote at level 3, Failed Champion, and Nightmare King Grimm.

According to the wiki (patch v1.4.3), the final fight against Pure Vessel is the uninfected version of the original Hollow Knight boss. The fight is faster, his moveset is cleaner, and the cross-slash plus desolate-dive combo can one-shot the Knight without Lifeblood Heart.

The wiki specifies the clear unlocks the Soul & Shade achievement and opens the central tower’s top, where the fifth and final Pantheon statue stands. Markoth and Nightmare King Grimm in the middle of the run are the two boss spikes most clears die on.

Build Tip

Pre-fight Pure Vessel in the Hall of Gods Attuned/Ascended/Radiant tiers before attempting the Pantheon. Per the wiki, the Pantheon version is identical to the Hall of Gods Ascended fight; familiarity with the cross-slash plus shade-soul-spam pattern is the difference between clearing in 5 attempts and 50.

Pantheon of Hallownest

Pantheon Hallownest icon Per the wiki, the Pantheon of Hallownest is the 42-boss capstone. Every previous Pantheon boss returns plus four new entries: the Godseeker boss fight (slot 6), Sisters of Battle (Mantis Lords ascended form), Paintmaster Sheo and Brothers Oro and Mato at boosted difficulty. The final boss is Absolute Radiance.

According to the wiki, this Pantheon adds checkpoint rooms between specific bosses: Hot Spring after Hornet Sentinel (slot 30), Bench/Lifeblood after White Defender (slot 35), and Bench/Lifeblood/Hot Spring after Nightmare King Grimm (slot 40). The checkpoints reset Soul and full-heal the Knight; they do not save the run.

The wiki specifies that Absolute Radiance is a three-phase fight that adds a platforming-and-sword-rain final phase not present in the original Radiance encounter. Clearing this Pantheon plus the standard Void Heart requirement unlocks the Embrace the Void true ending and the Godseeker ending cinematic.

According to the wiki, the fight starts the moment the Knight finishes Pure Vessel (slot 41); there is no transition window. Sharp Shadow plus Quick Slash plus Soul Catcher is the canonical clear loadout; spell-build options need Shaman Stone for phase-three platforming damage.

Bindings and Rewards

Per the wiki, the Bindings system layers four restrictions on top of each Pantheon. Each Binding is toggled before the run starts and removes one tool from the Knight’s kit. All four can be stacked at once for the maximum-difficulty clear.

BindingEffectTier reward
NailNail upgrades removed (Old Nail damage)Marker upgrade
ShellMax Masks capped at 4Marker upgrade
CharmsNo charms equippableMarker upgrade
SoulSoul capacity locked to single useMarker upgrade

According to the wiki, clearing each Pantheon with all four Bindings active stacks rewards. The grand prize is unlocked by clearing every Pantheon with every Binding: the Land of Storms hidden arena appears in Godhome, where the Knight collects the Weathered Mask. Wearing the mask in the Junk Pit allows Dream-Nailing into a hidden extra area called the Hidden Dream.

The wiki notes the Soul Binding is the hardest of the four on most builds. Spell-centric runs lose the Vengeful Spirit / Shade Soul tempo entirely; pure-nail builds survive better, but in actual play the Pantheon of Hallownest is where the Soul Binding clear turns brutal.

Common Mistakes

  1. Attempting the Pantheons without the Awoken Dream Nail. Per the wiki, the Godseeker cocoon will not respond to the standard Dream Nail. Players who hit her with the base version see no animation and no portal; the Seer Essence grind to 1,800 is the only gate.
  2. Ignoring Hall of Gods practice. According to the wiki, every Pantheon boss is also available in the Hall of Gods as a standalone fight (Attuned, Ascended, Radiant). Players who attempt the Pantheons cold burn far more attempts than those who practice spikes (Markoth, NKG, Soul Tyrant) individually first.
  3. Stacking Bindings on the first attempt. The wiki specifies the Binding reward tiers accept partial clears (1 of 4, 2 of 4, etc.). Players who stack all four first-time often eat a 30-attempt wall; rolling Bindings one at a time builds the muscle memory faster.
  4. Forgetting the Hot Spring slot in Pantheon of Hallownest. Per the wiki, the slot-30 Hot Spring after Hornet Sentinel refills all Masks plus Lifeblood. Players who skip the Hot Spring lose free sustain for the Enraged Guardian / Lost Kin spike that follows.
  5. Underestimating Absolute Radiance phase three. The wiki notes the platforming-and-sword-rain final phase has no in-game training. Players who clear the first two phases on muscle memory die to the third because the sword pattern only appears here; YouTube pattern study is the canonical prep.
