Torrona's Box is the cursed Pandora-themed passive item. The first 8 levels are pure power, granting up to +25% Omni (Might, Speed, Duration, Area). Level 9 unleashes +100% Curse, dramatically buffing every enemy. The risk-reward gamble is required for evolutions like Sole Solution and Ashes of Muspell.

Torrona's Box increases the Omni stat (Might, Projectile Speed, Duration, Area) by 4% at level 1, then 3% per level through level 8 for a max of +25% Omni. Level 9 stops giving Omni and instead adds +100% Curse, dramatically buffing every enemy on screen.
Torrona's Box is one of the most distinctive passives in Vampire Survivors, and in our experience the highest single-source stat boost in the game. Per the official Vampire Survivors Wiki, it was added in patch v0.7.2 and provides Omni stat scaling for the first 8 levels, then flips into a curse penalty at the maximum level. The risk-reward design is intentional, mirroring the Pandora's Box mythology its name references.
Omni is a composite stat that simultaneously increases four other stats: Might (damage multiplier), Projectile Speed, Duration, and Area. A +25% Omni from Torrona's Box at level 8 is equivalent to gaining +25% in each of those four stats individually. This makes Torrona's Box one of the highest single-source stat boosts in the game.
| Stat Affected | What It Boosts |
|---|---|
| Might | Damage multiplier on every weapon |
| Projectile Speed | Movement speed of projectiles |
| Duration | How long lingering effects persist |
| Area | Hitbox size for AOE weapons |
Torrona's Box has 9 levels (most passives have 5). The first level grants +4% Omni; each subsequent level adds +3% Omni up to level 8 (+25% total). Level 9 keeps the +25% Omni and ALSO adds +100% Curse, transforming every wave into a much harder fight.
| Level | Omni Bonus | Curse Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | +4% | 0% |
| Level 2 | +7% | 0% |
| Level 3 | +10% | 0% |
| Level 4 | +13% | 0% |
| Level 5 | +16% | 0% |
| Level 6 | +19% | 0% |
| Level 7 | +22% | 0% |
| Level 8 | +25% | 0% |
| Level 9 (max) | +25% | +100% |
Per the official wiki, Torrona's Box is one of only six passive items with a 9-level cap (alongside Silver Ring, Gold Ring, Metaglio Left, Metaglio Right, and Outer Saboteur). Most passives top out at 5 levels.
Torrona's Box unlocks by holding 6 different evolved weapons at the same time during a single run. The simplest path uses any character on Cappella Magna or Boss Rash, picking up evolutions from chest drops between minutes 10 and 25. Characters who start with evolved weapons (Minnah, Leda) reduce the count needed.
The 6-evolution requirement is one of the more demanding unlocks in the base game. The standard approach is to plan a run with weapon and passive choices that produce the easiest evolution chains.
| Character | Why It Works | Stage |
|---|---|---|
Queen Sigma | Pre-evolved Victory Sword starter; only need 5 more | Cappella Magna |
| Minnah | Pre-evolved Mannajja starter | Cappella Magna |
| Leda | Pre-evolved Holy Wand starter | Cappella Magna |
| Megalo Menya | High banish lets you control level-up rolls | Cappella Magna |
Per community guides, the simplest evolutions to chain together are:
The run requires careful banish management to keep the evolution slots open. Many players find it easier with characters that have built-in banish bonuses or pre-evolved starters. Once 6 evolutions are held simultaneously, Torrona's Box unlocks and joins the level-up pool for all future runs.
Torrona's Box is required for three weapon transformations, all needing it at maximum level (level 9). Victory Sword + max Torrona produces the Sole Solution gift. Flames of Misspell evolves to Ashes of Muspell. Pocket Knife evolves to Claimh Solais (Ode to Castlevania DLC).
Sole Solution is technically a "gift" rather than a standard evolution. The base Victory Sword remains in the inventory while Sole Solution is added as an additional weapon. This is the most prestigious Torrona's Box reward and one of the strongest single weapons in the base game.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Base Weapon | Victory Sword at level 8 (max) |
| Passive Item | Torrona's Box at level 9 (max, accepting the Curse penalty) |
| Trigger | Open a treasure chest after the 10-minute mark |
| Result | Victory Sword stays; Sole Solution added as a separate weapon (gift) |
Queen Sigma starts with Victory Sword pre-evolved, which makes her the canonical character for the Sole Solution gift. Christine Davain (Operation Guns DLC) and Megalo Menya (see our final boss guide for high-level Sigma play) are alternative carriers for the Victory Sword.
Ashes of Muspell is the standard evolution for Flames of Misspell, requiring Torrona's Box at max level. Flames of Misspell is the starting weapon of Eleanor Uziron (Tides of the Foscari DLC), the same character who breaks the Seal of the Banished.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Base Weapon | Flames of Misspell at level 8 (max) |
| Passive Item | Torrona's Box at level 9 (max) |
| Trigger | Open a treasure chest after the 10-minute mark |
Claimh Solais is the evolved Pocket Knife from the Ode to Castlevania DLC. The pairing with Torrona's Box (also requiring max level) creates a high-damage scaling weapon that benefits from both Omni and Curse stacking.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Base Weapon | Pocket Knife at level 8 (max) |
| Passive Item | Torrona's Box at level 9 (max) |
| DLC | Ode to Castlevania (paid DLC) |
To get +25% Omni without the level 9 Curse penalty, banish Torrona's Box when it appears at level 8 to upgrade. This locks in all the benefit and prevents the curse. WARNING: This blocks evolutions, so only do it on builds that do not need Sole Solution, Ashes of Muspell, or Claimh Solais.
Per the official wiki, the optimal Torrona's Box strategy on non-evolution builds is to stop at level 8 and banish further upgrades. This locks in the full +25% Omni without the +100% Curse. The trick requires available banishes (typically from the Banish PowerUp or high-banish characters like Sigma or Divano).
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Pick up Torrona's Box and level it normally through level 8 by collecting it on level-up rolls or stage spawns. |
| 2 | When Torrona's Box appears as a level-up choice at level 8 (the option to upgrade to level 9), banish it instead of accepting. |
| 3 | The +25% Omni from level 8 stays active. The +100% Curse from level 9 is permanently avoided for the rest of the run. |
| 4 | Continue the run with full Omni benefit and standard enemy difficulty. |
Queen Sigma (Victory Sword starter, Sole Solution carrier), Christine Davain (Operation Guns DLC, Victory Sword), Eleanor Uziron (Flames of Misspell starter for Ashes of Muspell), Vlad Tepes Dracula (Curse damage scaling), and Colonel Bahamut (Curse damage scaling) all benefit most.
| Character | Why It Pairs |
|---|---|
Queen Sigma | Pre-evolved Victory Sword; canonical Sole Solution carrier |
Christine Davain | Operation Guns DLC; alternative Victory Sword path |
| Eleanor Uziron | Starts with Flames of Misspell; Ashes of Muspell evolution |
Vlad Tepes Dracula | Curse-scaling damage passive; benefits from level 9 Curse |
Colonel Bahamut | Gains +1% Might per +1% Curse; level 9 doubles his damage |
Colonel Bahamut is the standout character for max-level Torrona's Box. His passive grants +1% Might per +1% Curse. The +100% Curse from Torrona's Box level 9 (see our Curse stat guide for stacking math) directly grants +100% Might, effectively doubling his damage on top of the +25% Omni Might bonus. The combination is one of the highest single-character damage scalings in the game.
Once unlocked, Torrona's Box spawns as a stage pickup on Abyss Foscari (Tides of the Foscari DLC). It does NOT spawn on Moongolow or Boss Rash like most standard passives. The Mad Groove arcana can also spawn it directly through item teleport.
Per the official wiki, Torrona's Box is one of the few base passives that does not appear on Moongolow or Boss Rash. The wiki explicitly notes "Moongolow and Boss Rash: All normal passives EXCEPT Torrona's Box." The only natural stage spawn is Abyss Foscari from the Tides of the Foscari DLC.
| Stage | DLC Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Abyss Foscari | Tides of the Foscari (paid) | Only stage with natural Torrona's Box spawn |
| Mad Groove arcana | Base game (Randomazzo relic) | Teleports all stage items to player; works on stages where Torrona spawns |
For most players, the primary access to Torrona's Box is through level-up rolls after the initial unlock. Picking up the level 1 Torrona's Box from a level-up choice and grinding it up through chests and additional rolls is the standard method.
The level 9 +100% Curse penalty becomes a benefit on specific characters and weapon combos. Hex/Nightmare scales damage with Curse. Twilight Requiem (II) explosion damage scales with Curse. Colonel Bahamut and Vlad Tepes Dracula gain Might directly from Curse percentages.
Per the official wiki, Hex and its evolved form Nightmare scale their damage with the player's current Curse value. Stacking Torrona's Box at level 9 (+100% Curse), Skull O'Maniac (+50% Curse), and Wicked Season arcana doubling effects produces dense Curse stacks that translate directly to Hex damage. The synergy makes Curse-stacking builds genuinely effective rather than just punishing.
The Twilight Requiem (II) arcana causes weapon hits to trigger explosive zones. Per the wiki, the explosion damage scales with Curse. Pairing this arcana with max-level Torrona 's Box converts the Curse penalty into a damage multiplier on every weapon hit, transforming a defensive risk into an offensive scaling tool.
Vlad Tepes Dracula gains +1% Might per +1% Curse, identical to Colonel Bahamut. The Castlevania DLC theme fits perfectly with the cursed Pandora 's Box motif. Dracula builds typically stack Torrona 's Box (level 9), Skull O 'Maniac, Gold Ring, and Metaglio Right for around +280% Curse, which translates to +280% Might on top of his Castlevania weapon set.
The character roster also includes other Curse-scaling options through DLC content. See our character roster page for the full list of Curse-scaling characters and unlock requirements.
The canonical Torrona's Box build pairs Queen Sigma with the full max-level passive stack to evolve Sole Solution while accepting the level 9 Curse. The Curse penalty is offset by Sigma's +108 starting banish, which lets the player aggressively banish unfavorable level-up rolls.
| Slot | Item |
|---|---|
| Weapon 1 | Victory Sword (starting) → Sole Solution gift |
| Weapon 2 | King Bible / Unholy Vespers |
| Weapon 3 | Cross / Heaven Sword |
| Weapon 4 | Laurel / Crimson Shroud |
| Weapon 5 | Garlic / Soul Eater |
| Weapon 6 | Lightning Ring / Thunder Loop |
| Passive 1 | Torrona's Box (level 9) |
| Passive 2 | Hollow Heart |
| Passive 3 | Pummarola |
| Passive 4 | Crown |
| Passive 5 | Spinach |
| Passive 6 | Empty Tome |
Colonel Bahamut's passive converts Curse into Might 1:1. Stacking Torrona's Box (level 9 = +100% Curse), Skull O'Maniac (+50% Curse), Gold Ring (+40%), and Metaglio Right (+40%) produces +230% Curse, which translates directly to +230% Might on top of the standard Omni boost. The build trades survivability for damage scaling.
Torrona's Box unlocks by holding 6 different evolved weapons at the same time during a single run. The simplest path is to pick a character with a pre-evolved starting weapon (Queen Sigma, Minnah, Leda) and chain easy evolutions like Whip + Hollow Heart, Magic Wand + Empty Tome, Knife + Bracer, Cross + Clover, Axe + Candelabrador, and King Bible + Spellbinder.
Torrona's Box increases the Omni stat (Might, Projectile Speed, Duration, Area) by +4% at level 1 and +3% per level after that, capping at +25% Omni at level 8. Level 9 keeps the +25% Omni and adds +100% Curse, which dramatically buffs every enemy on screen by increasing their speed, health, spawn frequency, and quantity.
Only if the build needs an evolution that requires it (Sole Solution, Ashes of Muspell, Claimh Solais) or specifically benefits from Curse (Vlad Tepes Dracula, Colonel Bahamut, Hex/Nightmare builds). Otherwise, banish Torrona's Box at level 8 to keep the +25% Omni without the +100% Curse penalty. The banish-at-8 trick is the standard play for non-evolution runs.
When Torrona's Box appears as a level-up option to upgrade from level 8 to level 9, click the X (banish) icon next to it instead of accepting. This permanently removes the upgrade option from the run, locking in the +25% Omni without triggering the +100% Curse. Requires available banishes from the Banish PowerUp or high-banish characters.
Omni is a composite stat that simultaneously boosts four other stats: Might (damage multiplier), Projectile Speed (how fast projectiles travel), Duration (how long lingering effects persist), and Area (hitbox size for AOE weapons). Torrona's Box at max level grants +25% in all four stats simultaneously, making it one of the highest single-source stat boosts in the game.
Torrona's Box at level 9 (max) is required for three weapon transformations. Victory Sword + max Torrona produces the Sole Solution gift (Victory Sword stays in inventory, Sole Solution added as separate weapon). Flames of Misspell + max Torrona evolves into Ashes of Muspell. Pocket Knife + max Torrona evolves into Claimh Solais (Ode to Castlevania DLC). All three require Torrona's Box at max level 9.
Torrona's Box has the smallest stage spawn pool of any base passive item. The only stage with a natural Torrona's Box spawn is Abyss Foscari from the Tides of the Foscari DLC. Notably, Moongolow and Boss Rash, which spawn every other standard passive, do NOT spawn Torrona's Box. The Mad Groove arcana can teleport stage items, which is one workaround on Abyss Foscari.
Per the official wiki, the name references both Pandora's Box (the Greek mythology container that unleashes curses upon humanity) and Torrone (an Italian Christmas nougat dessert, similar to how Pandoro is also Christmas-themed). The dessert reference fits Vampire Survivors' broader Italian theme. The Pandora's Box reference is reversed in the design - all the good effects come first, with the curse arriving at level 9.
