The Voidling is the alternate final boss of Risk of Rain 2, found in The Planetarium at the depths of the Void. It has Adaptive Armor like Mithrix, three phases separated by platforming gauntlets through Void Fog, and its signature attack: the Nullifier Black Hole - an instantly fatal implosion that ignores every form of invulnerability. Defeating it completes the Dragged Below challenge and unlocks Void Fiend.
The Voidling is found in The Planetarium, a hidden final stage. There are three routes to reach it.
Method 1 (main): Access the Bazaar Between Time and enter the Void Fields Hidden Realm. Breach all 9 cell vents. Exit through the Void Portal (not the Null Portal) to reach Void Locus. Charge all 4 Deep Void Signals. Enter the Deep Void Portal to reach The Planetarium.
Method 2 (post-Mithrix): Defeat Mithrix at Commencement. Return to the start of the stage and pet the glass frog 10 times. A Deep Void Portal spawns leading directly to The Planetarium.
Method 3 (looping): Void Portals have a 10% chance to spawn after a teleporter event from Stage 7 onwards (requires Void Locus to be completed first). Enter a Void Portal to reach Void Locus, then the Planetarium.
Between each phase the Voidling retreats and the arena fills with deadly Void Fog. You must chase it through a platforming gauntlet before the fog kills you. Wax Quail, Hopoo Feathers, and high movement speed items make these gauntlets dramatically easier. Survivors with flight or teleport skills have a major advantage here.
Like Mithrix, the Voidling has adaptive armor throughout all phases. Every damage hit grants temporary armor equal to 30 per 1% of max HP dealt, capping at 400 and decaying at 40 per second. Sustained consistent fire beats burst every time.
Space out your shots rather than dumping everything at once. Acrid's poison deals % max HP damage and bypasses adaptive armor scaling. Symbiotic Scorpion permanently reduces armor per hit. Death Mark with 4 debuffs active also helps push past armor caps.
Each phase transition involves the Voidling retreating through a Void Rift. The arena fills with Void Fog and you must navigate the platforming challenge before dying. New enemy types and attacks are added with each phase.
Fires homing void projectiles at the target. Newly Hatched Zoea allies are excellent at drawing these away from you.
Fires a tracking laser at the target. Use cover from arena terrain to break line of sight.
Voidling retreats through a Void Rift. Arena fills with Void Fog. Chase it through the platforming gauntlet before you die from the fog.
Homing Swarm, Laser, and Phase Retreat all remain active.
The arena shifts to a simulated environment (Distant Roost, Titanic Plains, etc.). Enemies from that environment now spawn alongside the Voidling.
Voidling rears up for 3.43 seconds then releases a massive implosion. 50m radius at apex, 10 seconds duration. Drags all enemies toward it with increasing force. INSTANTLY FATAL on contact. Ignores ALL invulnerability including Dio's Best Friend, Tougher Times. 60s cooldown.
Homing Swarm, Laser, enemy spawns, and Nullifier Black Hole all remain active.
Voidling no longer clears Void Fog. Instead it projects a 150m safety bubble around itself. Anything outside this radius takes constant Void Fog damage. You must stay near the Voidling at all times.
Outside the bubble, Void Fog deals escalating percentage-based health damage. Cannot be reduced by Repulsion Armor Plate. Scales with level.
The Voidling rears up to nearly its full height for 3.43 seconds - this is your warning. Immediately sprint away and find terrain cover. The attractive force pulling you in grows stronger throughout the 10 second duration. If Dio's Best Friend activates you will die again instantly since the attack continues. The only counter is distance and cover.
Stay ranged throughout Phases 1 and 2. Maintain adaptive armor-respecting sustained fire. Watch for the Black Hole wind-up (rearing up) and immediately sprint to cover. In Phase 3, balance staying within the 150m Void Fog bubble while still having escape routes for the Black Hole. Mobility items are the most important category of items for this fight.
Watch for the rear-up. The Nullifier Black Hole has a 3.43 second wind-up where the Voidling visibly rears up. This is your only warning. Start running immediately when you see it.
Get behind terrain during the Black Hole. An obstacle between you and the implosion sphere blocks the attractive force. The arena has terrain throughout. Knowing your nearest cover before the attack fires saves your life.
Sprint the platforming gauntlets. Between phases the Void Fog kills you if you move slowly. Wax Quail, high movement speed, and movement skills make these sections trivial. Failing the gauntlet by dying in the fog is the most common cause of death outside the Black Hole.
In Phase 3, hug the edge of the 150m bubble. When the Black Hole fires in Phase 3, you cannot run directly away from Voidling or you leave the bubble. Instead, sprint laterally along the bubble's edge to stay inside the safe zone while gaining distance from the implosion.
Newly Hatched Zoea is underrated here. Multiple stacks of Zoea spawn void allies constantly. These pull Homing Swarm projectiles away from you and distract the Voidling. The best way to stack Zoeas before this fight is having Trophy Hunter's Tricorn and yellow items to corrupt in Void Locus, then killing a Void Devastator with it.
Ranged survivors with mobility dominate this fight. Adaptive Armor punishes burst. The Black Hole punishes poor positioning. Melee and close-range survivors explicitly suffer due to Voidling's immense size.
Best ranged DPS at safe distance. XQR locks onto Voidling through its movement. Supercharge deals massive burst that still works within adaptive armor limits at controlled fire rate. Can stay far enough to minimize Homing Swarm threat and has clearest sightlines for Black Hole tells.
Blink makes the platforming gauntlets trivial and provides instant Black Hole escape. Auto-aim on Voidling works well at range while Blink handles repositioning. Phase Blink with Hardlight Afterburner gives near-constant repositioning for both gauntlets and Void Fog bubble navigation.
Ion Surge flight trivializes the platforming gauntlets and Black Hole avoidance. Can float at medium range above most homing projectiles. Cooldown-based burst respects adaptive armor between shots. Flame barrier blocks homing swarm projectiles.
Poison bypasses adaptive armor via % max HP damage. Blight DoT continues ticking through all phases including gauntlets. Frenzied Leap mobility assists gauntlet traversal. Effective at sustaining DPS across the long fight duration.
Trespass clears debuffs and provides instant repositioning for Black Hole avoidance. Thematic unlock character for this fight. Corrupted form burst can land well-timed between adaptive armor decay. High HP pool helps sustain Void Fog in Phase 3.
Grapple hook assists gauntlet traversal. However Voidling's immense size means Loader must fight at close range where homing projectiles are most dangerous and Black Hole is hardest to escape. Her high HP and barrier help absorb damage. Phase 3 Void Fog bubble actually helps Loader since she wants to be close anyway.
Must fight in melee range of a massive boss that is explicitly described as dangerous for melee/close-range survivors. Eviscerate I-frames help dodge Black Hole but the 10-second duration makes sustained escape difficult. Phase 3 Void Fog bubble partially mitigates the range disadvantage.
The Voidling is the alternate final boss of Risk of Rain 2, added in the Survivors of the Void DLC. It is found in The Planetarium and fought across three phases with platforming gauntlets between each. Defeating it leads to the Fate Unknown ending and unlocks Void Fiend.
There are three routes. The main one is completing Void Fields then Void Locus. The post-Mithrix route is petting the glass frog on Commencement 10 times to open a Deep Void Portal. After looping, Void Portals also have a 10% chance to appear naturally after Stage 7 teleporter events.
Run immediately the moment Voidling rears up (the 3.43 second wind-up). The Black Hole has a 50m radius at its peak and pulls you toward it with increasing force for 10 seconds. Get behind terrain. Sprint away with Wax Quail momentum. It is instantly fatal on contact and ignores every form of invulnerability including Dio's Best Friend and Tougher Times.
In Phase 3, Voidling stops clearing the arena's Void Fog. Instead it projects a 150m protection bubble around itself. Anything outside that radius takes constant scaling Void Fog damage. You must stay close to the Voidling at all times. This makes Phase 3 harder since you cannot run far from the Black Hole.
No. The Nullifier Black Hole is instantly fatal and kills you again immediately after Dio's revives you since the attack persists for 10 seconds. Extra lives of any kind do not help against this attack.
Defeating the Voidling completes the Dragged Below challenge and permanently unlocks Void Fiend as a playable survivor. The alternative is surviving 50 waves in the Simulacrum.
Yes. Multiple stacks of Newly Hatched Zoea spawn void allies frequently. These allies distract Voidling and draw Homing Swarm projectiles away from you. The most reliable way to get Zoeas before this fight is bringing a Trophy Hunter's Tricorn and multiple yellow boss items to corrupt in Void Locus, then killing a Void Devastator with the Tricorn.
