"Drink the Tonic, gaining a boost for 20 seconds. +100% damage, +70% attack speed, +20 armor, +50% max HP, +300% HP regen, +30% move speed. 20% chance to gain Tonic Affliction (-5%/stack all stats) when the buff wears off." Lunar Equipment, 60s cooldown. The stat bonuses are multipliers - they amplify other item effects. Permanent uptime requires 1 Gesture + 3 Fuel Cells, preventing afflictions entirely. Unlocked via Cosmic Explorer challenge.
The +70% attack speed doesn't just add 70% on top of your existing speed - it multiplies all attack speed sources by 1.7. A Soldier's Syringe that normally gives 15% attack speed gives 25.5% while the Tonic is active. The same applies to damage, HP, regen, and speed. This makes Spinel Tonic scale dramatically with stacked items.
The Tonic buff lasts 20 seconds. The base cooldown is 60 seconds. You need to reduce the cooldown to 20 seconds or less to achieve permanent uptime and prevent Tonic Affliction from ever triggering.
| Item Combo | Resulting CD | Uptime |
|---|---|---|
| No CDR items | 60s | No uptime |
| 1 Gesture | ~30s | No uptime (>20s) |
| 1 Gesture + 2 Fuel Cells | ~21.7s | No uptime (>20s) |
| 1 Gesture + 3 Fuel Cells | ~18.4s | Permanent uptime |
| 4 Gestures (no Fuel Cells) | ~16.6s | Permanent uptime |
| 2 Gestures + 2 Fuel Cells | ~15.3s | Permanent uptime |
With Gesture of the Drowned, the Tonic activates automatically whenever the cooldown expires. Once you have the 1 Gesture + 3 Fuel Cells minimum, the entire build runs itself. You never manually use the Tonic again - it fires, the buff runs, it fires again before it expires, permanently.
A persistent item added to your inventory whenever the Tonic buff expires. Each stack reduces all stats while the buff is NOT active. HP uses a different formula than other stats. Afflictions have zero effect while the buff is running.
| Affliction Stacks | HP Penalty | Other Stats Penalty | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | -9.1% HP | -5.0% other stats | Single affliction - minor penalty |
| 2 | -16.7% HP | -9.8% other stats | Noticeable but manageable |
| 3 | -23.1% HP | -14.3% other stats | ~26% stat loss - getting serious |
| 5 | -33.3% HP | -22.6% other stats | ~33% stats gone - run threatening |
| 10 | -50.0% HP | -40.1% other stats | ~40% HP and ~40% stats gone - likely fatal |
Spinel Tonic is a Lunar Equipment with a 60-second cooldown. When activated it grants a 20-second buff with massive stat boosts: +100% damage, +70% attack speed, +20 armor, +50% max HP, +300% HP regen, and +30% movement speed. When the buff expires there is a 20% chance to gain a Tonic Affliction stack, which reduces ALL stats by 5% per stack while the buff is not active.
You need to reduce the 60-second cooldown to 20 seconds or less (the buff duration). The minimum requirement is 1 Gesture of the Drowned plus 3 Fuel Cells, which reduces the cooldown to about 18.4 seconds. With Gesture auto-firing, the buff re-activates before the previous one expires, keeping the buff permanently active and preventing Tonic Affliction from ever triggering.
Tonic Affliction is a persistent debuff item added to your inventory when Spinel Tonic's buff expires without being renewed. Each stack reduces all stats by 5% (other stats: 1 - 0.95^stacks formula) while the tonic buff is not active. The affliction has no effect while the buff is running. It cannot be removed except by advancing to the next stage while the buff is active, which removes the buff without applying afflictions.
The main method is advancing to the next stage while the Spinel Tonic buff is active. Doing so removes the buff without rolling for Tonic Affliction. Afflictions already accumulated cannot be removed mid-stage by any normal means. The afflictions are negated (but not removed) while the Tonic buff is running, so achieving permanent uptime effectively makes afflictions harmless.
Yes. The 20% affliction chance is a luck-affected roll. With a single 57 Leaf Clover the chance drops to about 4%. Purity, by contrast, increases the chance to about 36%. If you plan to use Spinel Tonic without permanent uptime, a Clover is the best mitigation available.
