"Become an aspect of ice." Elite equipment dropped by Glacial Elites at 1/4000 (0.025%) chance per kill. Passive - occupies the equipment slot but cannot be activated. Every attack applies an 80% slow to enemies hit (in practice 45.5% actual speed reduction) for 1.5 seconds base, scaling with proc coefficient. On death, you explode for 150% frost damage in an AoE and freeze nearby enemies. Applies to minions including Engineer turrets.

How Her Biting Embrace Works
It is passive elite equipment - cannot be activated. Like Silence Between Two Strikes, it occupies the equipment slot but the activation button does nothing. Fuel Cells add no charges and CDR has no effect. MUL-T using Retool is the only way to hold it alongside usable equipment.
The 80% slow is not actually 80% speed reduction. RoR2 uses a diminishing formula for movement debuffs. The tooltip says 80% slow but the actual in-game speed reduction is approximately 45.5%. Enemies are very noticeably slowed but not completely stopped. Multiple slow sources stack - combining Her Biting Embrace with Chronobauble brings enemies to near-standstill.
Slow duration scales with proc coefficient. The base slow lasts 1.5 seconds per hit. Skills with high proc coefficients (1.0) apply the full 1.5s duration. Skills with lower proc coefficients apply proportionally shorter durations. High attack speed survivors continuously re-apply the slow before it expires, keeping enemies permanently slowed throughout combat.
Minions inherit the slow - Engineer turrets apply it on every shot. Any summon or turret you control that deals damage will also apply the Glacial slow from Her Biting Embrace. Engineer's TR12 Gauss Auto-Turrets fire rapidly and keep everything around them permanently slowed. This is the single strongest synergy with this equipment.
On death: ice explosion dealing 150% frost damage and freezing nearby enemies. When you die, a frost AoE detonates around your position. Enemies hit take 150% damage and are frozen in place. This is a last-resort effect - in practice it rarely matters since dying with it usually means the run is already over. The freeze can occasionally save a teammate in multiplayer if they are nearby.
The slow counts as a debuff toward Death Mark. Death Mark activates when an enemy has 4 or more debuffs, increasing all damage to them by 50%. Her Biting Embrace's slow is one debuff. Combine it with bleed, burn, and another debuff source to reliably trigger Death Mark on every enemy you hit, turning slow into a damage amplification setup.
The 80% Slow - What It Actually Does
Slow stacking with other sources
Her Biting Embrace alone
~45.5% actual speed reduction
+ Chronobauble (60% slow)
Enemies near standstill
+ REX Weak debuff (40% slow)
Near-complete immobilization
Engineer TR58 Carbonizer Turret (slows on its own)
Stacks with HBE slow
Slow is most valuable against fast enemies and Mithrix. Against slow-moving enemies it provides little benefit since they are already easy to kite. Against Mithrix (who teleports and dashes frequently), the slow meaningfully extends your window to deal damage between his movements. The utility is strongest in mobile-enemy scenarios and boss fights.
Best Survivors
Engineer
S Tier
Both turrets inherit the Glacial slow and apply it on every shot. TR12 Gauss Auto-Turret fires rapidly, keeping everything permanently slowed around each turret independently. Engineer can place two turrets and stand back entirely - the entire area becomes a slow zone. Strongest minion synergy with this equipment by a wide margin.
MUL-T
S Tier
Retool lets MUL-T hold this alongside usable equipment. You get constant passive slows from all attacks plus a fully functional second equipment piece. MUL-T's high base HP also makes the death explosion less of a liability since survivability is higher. Best survivor for using passive aspects alongside active equipment.
REX
A Tier
REX's Weak debuff adds another 40% slow stacking with Her Biting Embrace. Combined, enemies reach near-complete immobilization. REX also builds debuffs naturally from other skills, making Death Mark easier to trigger. The slow-tank playstyle fits REX's kit of sustained plant damage at controlled range.
Huntress
A Tier
High attack speed means the slow is re-applied constantly with zero downtime. Huntress already kites naturally - slowed enemies are trivially easy to avoid. Arrow Rain hits many targets simultaneously applying slow to the whole group. The survivability upside of permanently-slowed enemies synergizes directly with her fragile stat profile.
Mercenary
B Tier
Melee range means the slow directly reduces damage taken from the enemies he is fighting. Eviscerate applies many hits, refreshing the slow constantly. The survivability benefit is real, but Mercenary already has strong defensive tools and the equipment slot competes with Ocular HUD or Disposable Missile Launcher for burst.
Key Synergies
Engineer turrets create a permanent 80% slow field. Each turret fires independently and applies the Glacial slow on every shot. With two turrets placed, the area around them is a no-go zone for fast enemies. Boss enemies caught in turret crossfire have their movement speed severely reduced, making Engineer one of the safest survivors in the game when this item drops.
Her Biting Embrace + Shatterspleen + one more debuff = Death Mark. Shatterspleen applies Bleed (debuff 1). Her Biting Embrace applies slow (debuff 2). Add burn from a Blazing elite kill via Wake of Vultures, or a Chronobauble slow (debuff 3), or REX Weak (debuff 4). Death Mark triggers at 4 debuffs, boosting all damage by 50%. The slow is a free debuff that makes this threshold easier to hit.
57 Leaf Clover doubles your effective drop chance. Without Clover: 1/4000 per Glacial Elite kill. With 1 Clover: roughly 1/2000. With 2+ Clovers the odds improve further. If you are specifically farming for Her Biting Embrace, Clover is the only item that directly raises your chance of seeing it drop.
Wake of Vultures stacks Glacial effects during the buff window. Wake of Vultures grants the power of any elite you kill. If you kill a Glacial Elite while holding both Wake of Vultures and Her Biting Embrace, you get double Glacial application during the buff window - though the slow does not meaningfully stack with itself. The real value is having HBE permanently from equipment while Wake provides other elite powers from different kills.
The slow is not useful against immobile enemies or bosses that don't move. Vagrant, Grovetender, and other slow-moving bosses gain almost no debuff value from Her Biting Embrace since they barely move anyway. The item shines most against fast melee elites, Mithrix phase transitions, and high-mobility enemies like Wisps that swarm at speed.
How to Farm - Glacial Elite Drops
1/4000 per Glacial Elite kill. Expect hundreds of runs without Artifact of Honor.
1
Enable Artifact of Honor to force all enemies to spawn as elites. Every kill is an elite kill, and a portion will be Glacial. Massively increases your Glacial Elite kill count per run.
2
Add Artifact of Swarms to double enemy count. More enemies = more Glacial Elite kills per stage.
3
Stack 57 Leaf Clover to improve drop chance. 1 Clover raises effective odds to approximately 1/2000. This is the only in-game item that directly increases your chances.
4
Loop stages rather than rushing to Mithrix. More stages = more enemy kills = more Glacial Elite encounters per run.
5
Do not use Purity during farming - it worsens your drop odds by rolling additional times for an unfavorable outcome.
At 1/4000 odds, you need to kill approximately 4000 Glacial Elites for a 63% chance of seeing one drop. With Artifact of Honor + Swarms, a full looping run might generate 500+ Glacial Elite kills. Expect 5-10 runs minimum even with optimal setup. Artifact of Command lets you select it directly if it appears in the item pool rather than getting it randomly.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Her Biting Embrace do in Risk of Rain 2?
Her Biting Embrace is passive elite equipment dropped by Glacial Elites. It grants Glacial Elite power: every attack applies an 80% slow (45.5% actual speed reduction) to enemies for 1.5 seconds base, scaling with proc coefficient. On death you emit a frost AoE dealing 150% damage and freezing nearby enemies. The slow counts as a debuff for Death Mark, and applies to all your minions including Engineer turrets.
Does the 80% slow actually reduce speed by 80%?
No. RoR2 uses a diminishing formula for movement speed debuffs. The tooltip says 80% slow but the actual speed reduction is approximately 45.5%. This is the same for all Glacial Elites in the game - enemies slow-tagged by Glacials are visibly slowed but not stopped. Stacking multiple slow sources (Chronobauble, REX Weak, Carbonizer Turret) compounds the effect toward near-standstill.
Can you activate Her Biting Embrace?
No. It is passive equipment that occupies the equipment slot but cannot be activated. The equipment button does nothing. Fuel Cells do not add charges and CDR items have no effect on it. MUL-T using Retool is the only way to hold it alongside a separate usable equipment piece.
How rare is Her Biting Embrace?
Extremely rare. Each Glacial Elite has a 1/4000 (0.025%) chance to drop it on death. Without Artifact of Honor, you may see only a few Glacial Elites per run, making natural drops essentially luck-dependent over many hours. With Artifact of Honor and Artifact of Swarms, you can generate hundreds of Glacial Elite kills per run and dramatically improve your chances over time.
Does Her Biting Embrace work on Engineer turrets?
Yes. Both Engineer turrets inherit the Glacial slow and apply it on every shot. This is the strongest synergy with the equipment. Two turrets firing at high rate permanently slow everything in their range, making Engineer with Her Biting Embrace one of the safest map-control setups in the game.
Does Her Biting Embrace help with Death Mark?
Yes. The slow applied by Her Biting Embrace counts as a debuff toward Death Mark's 4-debuff threshold. With Shatterspleen applying Bleed (debuff 1), Her Biting Embrace applying slow (debuff 2), and two additional debuff sources such as burn and Chronobauble, every enemy you hit triggers Death Mark's 50% damage bonus. The slow is a free passive debuff that makes this threshold significantly easier to hit.
