Effect: 20% chance to inflict ice damage on hit, which can freeze enemies.
Unlock: Available from the start - no unlock required. Unlocking Frostwalker requires freezing 1,000 enemies with Ice Cube.
The Ice Cube is a Legendary item that gives each hit a 20% chance to inflict ice damage on the target, which can freeze them. Frozen enemies cannot move or attack for the duration of the freeze. This provides both defensive value - stopping enemies from reaching you - and offensive value, as frozen targets are stationary and easier to hit with follow-up damage.
The freeze proc is on-hit, meaning every projectile, tick, or hit roll has an independent 20% chance. High attack speed and multi-projectile weapons generate more individual proc rolls per second, significantly increasing how often freezes land. Ice Cube is also on the Overpowered Lamp's confirmed proc list, so each hit with a Lamp active rolls the 20% freeze chance twice.
Bosses have freeze resistance - they are slowed rather than fully frozen when Ice Cube procs against them. The freeze effect is most powerful on regular enemies and elites, where it completely stops movement and retaliation.
Ice Cube is the starting point of the frost unlock chain that leads through Frostwalker all the way to Noelle. The chain must be completed in order and each step is cumulative or permanent once achieved.
| Step | Condition | Unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Freeze 1,000 enemies using Ice Cube (cumulative across runs) | Frostwalker weapon |
| 2 | Get 50 kills with the Frostwalker weapon | Ice Crystal item |
| 3 | In a single run, use a Microwave to duplicate Ice Crystal three times consecutively with no other duplications in between | Noelle character |
Freeze progress toward the 1,000 freeze unlock counts only from Ice Cube procs specifically - not from other freeze sources like Ice Crystal or Frostwalker itself. Equip Ice Cube and focus on high-density waves where the 20% proc fires frequently. Good late-game swarms can yield 100-200 freezes per run, so the 1,000 threshold typically takes 3-5 runs.
For step 3, the three Ice Crystal duplications must happen back to back with no other items duplicated in between. Do not use the Microwave on any other item once you start the sequence. Progress on the consecutive duplication count does not carry between runs - all three must happen in a single run.
Noelle - Noelle is the character most directly tied to Ice Cube. Her Enduring passive grants +1% Duration per level, which extends how long each freeze lasts throughout the run. Multiple Pro Game Guides and Deltia's Gaming Noelle build guides specifically list Ice Cube alongside Ice Crystal as natural core items for her, because both amplify the freeze uptime that her Frostwalker build depends on. Ice Cube gives on-hit freeze coverage from all her weapons, while Frostwalker provides zone freeze - together they keep nearly everything frozen simultaneously.
Bandit - The wiki explicitly recommends high attack speed for Ice Cube. Bandit's passive adds +1% Attack Speed per level, generating more hits per second than most characters and therefore more independent 20% freeze proc rolls per second. Bandit also benefits specifically from freeze because frozen enemies cannot retaliate while he stays in close range to fire his rapid attacks - the CC directly supports his aggressive playstyle.
CL4NK - CL4NK's Revolver starter weapon fires multiple projectiles, each with an independent Ice Cube proc roll. His Crit Happens passive also adds +1% Crit Chance per level, and the wiki specifically notes multi-projectile weapons as ideal for Ice Cube. In a late-game CL4NK run with high Projectile Count on Revolver and Bone, Ice Cube can freeze a large portion of the screen on every volley, converting the passive 20% chance into near-constant crowd control.
It gives each hit a 20% chance to inflict ice damage and freeze the enemy. Frozen enemies cannot move or attack for the freeze duration. Bosses have freeze resistance and are slowed rather than fully frozen. Ice Cube is also the first step in the frost unlock chain that leads to Frostwalker and eventually Noelle.
Freeze 1,000 enemies using Ice Cube procs. The counter is cumulative across runs. Only freezes from Ice Cube count - not from Ice Crystal or other sources. High attack speed and multi-projectile weapons generate more proc rolls per second. Good late-game swarms yield 100-200 freezes per run, so expect 3-5 runs to reach 1,000.
Complete three steps in order: freeze 1,000 enemies with Ice Cube to unlock Frostwalker, get 50 kills with Frostwalker to unlock Ice Crystal, then in a single run use a Microwave to duplicate Ice Crystal three times consecutively with no other items duplicated in between. All three duplications must happen in one run.
Bosses have freeze resistance. Ice Cube procs against bosses slow them rather than fully freezing them. The item is most effective on regular enemies and elites, where it completely stops movement and attacks for the freeze duration.
