What Does the Anvil Do in Megabonk?

The Anvil is a Legendary item that improves every weapon upgrade you receive for the rest of the run. When you level up and choose a weapon upgrade, that upgrade will have one extra stat point added to it. A +5% Damage upgrade becomes +6%. A +1 Projectile upgrade becomes +2. The effect applies to every weapon upgrade from the moment you pick it up.

The Anvil also expands your upgrade selection from two choices to three. This gives you better odds of seeing the upgrade you want each level, on top of the stat bonus itself.

The Anvil is unique - once you have one in a run, it is removed from the loot pool. You will not find a second copy.

Why It Compounds So Strongly

The Anvil's power is tied to how early you find it. Found at level 5, it improves every single upgrade for the remaining 20+ levels of the run. Found at level 25, it helps for the final stretch only. Prioritize opening chests and visiting the Shady Guy early to maximize the number of upgrades it affects.

Is the Anvil Good in Megabonk?

The Anvil is one of the strongest items in the game. The combination of +1 stat per upgrade and an extra upgrade choice compounds across every level-up, making it exceptional in any build.

It is particularly powerful in weapon-heavy builds that are constantly upgrading multiple weapons. Every level-up on every weapon benefits from the +1 stat bonus simultaneously. By the end of a long Tier 3 run, the cumulative stat bonus across all your upgrades is significant.

The only consideration is timing. An Anvil found at level 3 is dramatically more valuable than one found at level 20. If you can access chests and the Shady Guy early, the Anvil is near-universally the correct choice.

Challenges are unlocked by completing each map tier. Forest Tier 1 must be cleared before its challenges become available. See our AFK Challenge guide for tips on one of the more accessible early challenges.

Best Characters to Use Anvil With

The Anvil benefits every character, but some get more value from it than others.

Megachad - Aura is one of the most upgrade-intensive weapons in the game. The Anvil makes every Aura level-up hit harder, and the extra upgrade choice helps find Cooldown and Size upgrades faster.

CL4NK - Crit builds rely on stacking crit chance and crit damage through upgrades. The Anvil's +1 stat per upgrade accelerates the crit scaling that CL4NK's passive amplifies.

Athena - Aegis upgrades compound quickly. Extra stats on each Aegis level-up translate directly into faster cooldowns and more damage, which synergises with Athena's low-HP damage passive.

Dicehead - Random stat upgrades from Dicehead's passive already make each level-up a gamble. The Anvil guarantees an extra stat on every roll, raising the floor of the randomness.

Best Items to Pair with the Anvil

Overpowered Lamp
Doubles the proc rate of all on-hit items. While it doesn't directly interact with the Anvil, both are run-defining Legendary items. Having both in the same run creates a dominant setup.
Giant Fork
+15% Crit Chance and Megacrit conversion. In crit builds, the Anvil's extra stat per upgrade accelerates Giant Fork's value - more crit-boosting upgrades per level means Megacrits fire more frequently.
Holy Book
+100 Max HP and +50 HP Regen in one slot. The Anvil handles weapon scaling while Holy Book handles survivability. Both are high-priority Legendary pickups that complement each other without competing.
Soul Harvester
Each kill spawns two homing souls. In high-kill builds where the Anvil is maximizing weapon output, Soul Harvester turns every kill into additional passive damage that chains into more kills.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Anvil do in Megabonk?

The Anvil gives every weapon upgrade +1 extra stat for the rest of the run. It also increases your upgrade choices from two to three. It is a Legendary item that is removed from the loot pool after you find one copy, so you cannot get duplicates.

How do you unlock the Anvil in Megabonk?

Complete 3 Challenges in Megabonk. Challenges are unlocked by clearing map tiers. Once you have completed 3, go to Main Menu - Unlocks - Items and purchase the Anvil with Silver to add it to your loot pool.

How do you get the Anvil in Megabonk?

After unlocking and purchasing the Anvil, it enters your loot pool and can appear from Treasure Chests or the Shady Guy NPC during runs. Because it is a Legendary item, it appears less frequently than Common or Rare items. Having higher Luck increases your chances of rolling Legendary items from chests.

Is the Anvil the best item in Megabonk?

It is one of the best items in the game, particularly when found early in a run. The +1 stat per weapon upgrade compounds across every level-up from the moment you find it. Found at level 3 or 4, it can add dozens of extra stat points across your entire weapon set by the end of a Tier 3 run. Found late, its impact is smaller but still meaningful.
