Seekers of the Storm DLC
The Halcyon Shrine and Halcyon Seed require the Seekers of the Storm DLC. One player owning the DLC enables it for the entire lobby.
The Halcyon Shrine is a gold-drain event shrine added in Seekers of the Storm. Interact to start it, drain gold across three thresholds, then stop it to summon the Halcyonite boss. Defeating the Halcyonite drops Aurelionite Fragments - item selection orbs worth 1-3 picks from 3-5 options based on how much gold you spent. The first completion opens a Green Portal to the SotS boss path. Later completions open Gold Portals to Gilded Coast for the Halcyon Seed.
How to Find the Halcyon Shrine
~95% spawn chance on Stage 1. The Halcyon Shrine almost always appears on Stage 1 environments. Check open areas (NoCeiling zones) like cliffs, elevated platforms, and wide fields. Spawn chance decreases on later stages.
Chat confirms the spawn. If the Halcyon Shrine is present on the current stage, the message "You hear thunder rumbling." appears in chat at stage start. No message means no shrine. When the Green Portal opens, "The storm beckons." appears.
Looks like a pillar of stone. Before charging, the shrine is an unassuming stone pillar. After interacting, a golden dome forms around it and the pillar turns gold as it charges. No directional particle effect points to it like teleporters do.
How to Charge the Shrine
1
First interact starts the shrine. A golden dome forms. Gold drains from players inside the dome at 1g per 0.2 seconds. Stone Golems spawn immediately - kill them to recover some gold.
2
Stay inside the dome. Gold only drains from players within the dome radius. All players can contribute gold simultaneously. Killing the Stone Golems returns gold to continue charging.
3
Cross the thresholds (75g, 150g, 300g). Each threshold triggers a flash effect and spawns another wave of Stone Golems. More gold = more items and better rarity in the Fragment drop.
4
Second interact stops charging and summons Halcyonite. The Halcyonite is a Gilded Elite boss. It is manageable - defeat it to receive Aurelionite Fragments and open the portal.
Reward Thresholds
The more gold spent charging, the better the item selection from your Aurelionite Fragment.
| Threshold |
Gold Required |
Items Shown |
Items Chosen |
Pool |
| Minimum | 75g (scaled) | 3 items | Pick 1 | Pool A - general items |
| Medium | 150g (scaled) | 4 items | Pick 2 | Pool A - general items |
| Maximum | 300g (scaled) | 5 items | Pick 3 | Pool B - themed + better rarity |
Stone Golems Partially Fund the Shrine
The Combat Director spawns Stone Golems during charging. At low difficulty, killing all golems returns roughly 21% of the full 300g cost (~63g). At higher difficulties the gold from golems scales up and can cover most or all of the cost. Always kill the golems before deciding whether to stop charging.
Artifact of Command Changes the Reward
With Command active, you receive Command Cubes instead of Fragment choices: 1 cube at minimum, 2 at medium, 3 at maximum. Pool A and Pool B still affect rarity weighting of the cubes even with Command active.
Green Portal vs Gold Portal
Green Portal - First Completion
Appears on the first Halcyon Shrine completed on a Stage 1, 2, or 3 environment. Leads to the SotS path: Reformed Altar - Treeborn Colony - Prime Meridian (False Son).
Required to unlock Artifact of Rebirth and access the False Son fight.
Gold Portal - Subsequent Completions
All Halcyon Shrines completed after the first Green Portal open Gold Portals instead. Leads to Gilded Coast where Aurelionite drops the Halcyon Seed.
Best way to accumulate multiple Halcyon Seeds across SotS runs.
Halcyon Seed
Halcyon Seed
Summon Aurelionite during the Teleporter event. It has 100% (+50% per stack) damage and 100% (+100% per stack) health.
Stacks Count
All players combined
Engineer Turrets
Don't count
Aurelionite fights for you during Teleporter Events. She spawns as an ally when the Teleporter is activated and dies when it finishes charging. Her Halcyon Seed immediately returns to your inventory on her death.
Stacks across all players combined. A 4-player team with one Halcyon Seed each has 4 combined stacks, giving Aurelionite +200% damage and +400% HP. Engineer turret item copies don't count.
Spawns in Mithrix Phase 4 to help you. If you have a Halcyon Seed during the final phase of the Mithrix fight, Aurelionite spawns as your ally for that phase.
Becomes an enemy during False Son Phase 3. If you carry a Halcyon Seed into the False Son fight and reach Phase 3, Aurelionite spawns hostile against you with full stacked stats. Defeating False Son this way unlocks him as a playable survivor.
Trophy Hunter's Tricorn can drop extra seeds. Aurelionite is a valid Tricorn target. Killing her with the Tricorn drops a bonus Halcyon Seed on top of the normal reward.
How to Get the Halcyon Seed
1
Reach Gilded Coast. Options: take a Gold Portal from a Halcyon Shrine, use an Altar of Gold, or use the Lunar Seer in the Bazaar Between Time.
2
Activate all 7 Halcyon Beacons. The beacons cost gold and are scattered around the Gilded Coast. After 4 are activated, Aurelionite spawns. She is invincible until all 7 are active.
3
Defeat Aurelionite during her vulnerability window. Once all beacons are active she becomes vulnerable. Burst her down - the window closes and beacons deactivate after a period, requiring reactivation.
4
Pick up the Halcyon Seed. One drops per player. Use Trophy Hunter's Tricorn to also kill Aurelionite for a bonus seed.
Best Items to Pair with Halcyon Seed

Lepton Daisy
Healing nova during Teleporter Events. Aurelionite draws enemy fire during teleporter events - Lepton Daisy heals you and your Aurelionite ally simultaneously.

Trophy Hunter's Tricorn
Killing Aurelionite with Tricorn drops a bonus Halcyon Seed. On subsequent Gilded Coast visits, use Tricorn for an extra seed per run.

Artifact of Command
Command gives you Command Cubes from Halcyon Shrine Fragments instead of random items. 3 cubes at maximum charge for full item choice.

Queen's Gland
Aurelionite stacks across all players. 4 players with 1 seed each = 4 combined stacks = a very powerful Aurelionite ally during every teleporter.

War Horn
Aurelionite deals increased damage with more seed stacks. High stack counts with War Horn-equipped builds create synchronized damage windows during each teleporter event.

Halcyon Seed (stacked)
Multiple Halcyon Seeds are additive. On a full team accumulating seeds across multiple Gilded Coast visits, Aurelionite becomes an enormous tank and damage dealer by late game.
Tips
Check chat at stage start. "You hear thunder rumbling." means a Halcyon Shrine spawned. Start hunting for it immediately before spending gold on chests, since you'll want gold for charging.
Kill the Stone Golems during charging. They return gold. At higher difficulties golem gold can almost fully cover the shrine cost. Never ignore them during the event.
Decide before charging: Green Portal or items? If you want the SotS path (Prime Meridian, False Son, Artifact of Rebirth), take the Green Portal. If you want the Halcyon Seed, focus on Gold Portals from later shrines.
Maximum threshold is worth it with multiple players. 300g sounds steep but with multiple players draining together and golem gold returning, hitting max charge is often achievable on Stage 1. The Pool B rarity boost is significant.
Beware the False Son fight with a Halcyon Seed. In Phase 3, Aurelionite turns hostile. If your build can't handle both False Son and an aggressive Aurelionite simultaneously, consider dropping the seed before the fight. Keeping it unlocks False Son as a survivor.
Halcyon Seed is blacklisted from Engineer turrets. Engineer turret item copies never include the Halcyon Seed. Only the actual player's seed count matters for Aurelionite's stats.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Halcyon Shrine do in Risk of Rain 2?
The Halcyon Shrine (Seekers of the Storm DLC) is a charged shrine that drains your gold while spawning Stone Golems. When stopped, it summons the Halcyonite boss - a Gilded Elite. Defeating the Halcyonite drops Aurelionite Fragments - item selection orbs where you pick 1-3 items from 3-5 options depending on how much gold you spent. It also opens a Green Portal to the SotS path (on the first activation) or a Gold Portal to Gilded Coast (on subsequent ones).
How do I charge the Halcyon Shrine?
Interact with the shrine to start it. Gold drains automatically at 1g per 0.2 seconds from players standing in the golden dome. Three thresholds exist: Minimum at 75g (pick 1 of 3 items), Medium at 150g (pick 2 of 4 items), and Maximum at 300g (pick 3 of 5 items with better rarity). Stone Golems spawn at each threshold - killing them returns gold to help sustain the charging. Interact a second time to stop charging and summon the Halcyonite boss.
How do I get the Halcyon Seed in Risk of Rain 2?
The Halcyon Seed drops from Aurelionite in the Gilded Coast. Reach the Gilded Coast via an Altar of Gold, the Lunar Seer in the Bazaar Between Time, or by taking a Gold Portal after a second Halcyon Shrine. Activate all 7 Halcyon Beacons around the Gilded Coast to make Aurelionite vulnerable, then defeat her. One Halcyon Seed drops per player.
What does the Halcyon Seed do?
The Halcyon Seed summons Aurelionite as an ally at the start of every Teleporter Event. She fights alongside you until the Teleporter is charged, then dies and returns to your inventory. Base stats: 100% damage, 100% HP. Each additional Halcyon Seed (stacked across all players) adds +50% damage and +100% HP. Engineer turrets do not count toward the stack total.
What is the Green Portal from Halcyon Shrine?
The first Halcyon Shrine completed on a Stage 1, 2, or 3 environment (that is not a SotS DLC stage itself) opens a Green Portal leading to the Seekers of the Storm path - Reformed Altar, then Treeborn Colony, then Prime Meridian. Subsequent completed Halcyon Shrines instead open Gold Portals to the Gilded Coast where you can fight Aurelionite for a Halcyon Seed.
Does the Halcyon Seed work against False Son?
Yes, but adversarially. During False Son Phase 3, if you have a Halcyon Seed, Aurelionite spawns as an ENEMY against you with all extra stats from stacked seeds. Defeating False Son in this state (with Aurelionite hostile) completes the Purified Freedom challenge and unlocks False Son as a playable survivor.
